Mercedes won’t sacrifice profit margins to sell more cars
The winner of the three germans will be the one who's first to build a great, affordable, electric car + a global fast charging network. That is the next big thing.

Volvo V90 to be revealed on February 18 in Stockholm
All Volvos developed over the last few decades have had an FWD architecture(with optional "add-on" AWD). These will be the same. Its about the engine layout, all Volvos nowadays have a transversal engine mount. Its more space efficient. Most if not all RWD cars have a longitudal engine mount, which sacrifices passenger space.

Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman looks enormous next to VW Golf IV [video]
Funny thing is the ultra rich dont like the confined space of a stretched sedan. They buy customized vans instead. In those they can get seats that fold flat, and 40+ inch screens etc + they dont have to bend down to get in. I wonder when Mercedes and others are going to make a V-class with the same level of refinment(noise insulation, suspension etc) as an S-class, because there is clearly a market for it.

Meet the Greenest and Meanest vehicles of 2016
So the only electric car that can truly replace a fossil car is omitted because it is "too heavy"? Sigh, so stupid, and a sign that this is a list made BY fossil car producers FOR fossil car producers. All of the cars on this list are less green than a Tesla because you cannot have them as your only car, but with a Tesla you could.

US gas prices dipping below $1
I dont think so actually. The people buying EVs arent doing it to save on gas. They do it cause they're interested in the technology and/or the environment. Thats today, might (hopefully) be another story in another year or two when good affordable mass market EVs are available.

2016 Mercedes E Class shows familiar design in Detroit
I like the design of it. Just wish there was an all electric version, with a global supercharger network... A car like this shouldn't have a vibrating, clattering, exhaust spewing oil burner from the stone age in the front.

2017 Chevrolet Bolt performance specs announced, has 200 hp
Looks good. Good range, performance and price. Seems pretty much perfect for the average joe. I really like it. Only problem is the charging... GM needs to build a nation wide, and later world wide, charging network. Like Tesla has done with their Superchargers. Or better yet, parter up with Tesla on the charging network. The first manufacturer with a good fairly priced EV, such as this, AND a wide covering fast charging network will be a WINNER.

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCrew unveiled [video]
Its a fascinating and inspiring truck. Very competent stuff. Sadly most buyers will just cruise on the highways and around cities and towns with them. And that is just a huge waste of potential... and gas... and doing better things for the environment...

Volvo S90 to come standard with a semi-autonomous driving system
I'm a big Tesla fan, but their autopilot is far from perfect. Tesla has literally taken a few "wrong turns". Hopefully Volvo can make their "pilot" better from the start. And with Volvos safety history I'm sure they will.

Not quite, its optional. Costs a few thousand dollars extra.

2016 Volvo V90 spied completely naked!
Actually regular automatic transmissions(i.e. with torque converters) are usually much more robust than dual clutch ones. Thats why for example many of the beefiest AMG and Audi RS models haven't had dual clutch boxes. Like the S65 AMG.

I'm about to give up my car, forever
There is nothing that says that public transit can't be way faster than driving a car. In fact if it is slower it is only a sign that the city planners haven't done their job properly, and that they need to be replaced. There are many types of bicycles these days. There are large electric ones that can carry many hundred kilos of stuff without any problem. In fact where I live there is a moving company that uses only bicycles to move people homes from one place to another, and it works well. And its winter here too, snow and minus 20 degrees celsius. The bikes have studded tires and the riders have winter clothing. People have become lazy driving their cars everywhere. They need to get a wake up call. I've lived in a big city now for two decades, and I've never had a car. I dont know anyone who really needs one either, those I know who have one just have one because they're lazy. I live in a city because its fast and cheap to go from A to B, and everything I need is close by. And the job market is a lot bigger in a city.

I'm about to give up my car, forever
Sacto8780: Wrong, the rail system in Japan has nothing to do with the size of the country. The US is a good example of that as it had a great rail network long before there were cars. The car manufacturers however managed to convince the politicians that the car was the future, so the railways declined and society built roads instead.

I'm about to give up my car, forever
Many car nuts often say that "the car is necessary for some people", like its every other person. Its not. In a big city there is zero need for cars within the city. People can use buses, subways, trams etc or walk or ride a bike to move themselves. Other types of delivery vehicles(does not have to be a car, could be transport bicycles or whatever) for anything larger than you can carry. The only need for a car are for those who regularly travel far to places where there is no alternative, but why are those people living in the city to begin with? It is you who is wrong, the uses cases for a car is the minority of cases. The majority would be absolutely fine without a car, they're just not used to it.And its obvious that I'm right as younger people often don't even care about getting a drivers license nowadays, they simply don't need it.

Because sometimes it might be good to get a wakeup call. Obviously there are a lot of car nuts here that are blind to whats going on in the world.

There are already lots of automated trains in traffic today. Protesting against automation is just futile. Its like saying that factory lines are stupid because it increases efficiency and therefore requires less workers. ANYTHING that requires less workers will ALWAYS be seen as a positive by the market.

The physical size of the country is irrelevant. There are lots of car rental companies that will let you drive anywhere you like within the country.

I'm about to give up my car, forever
I live in a big city where there's a lot of car pools. I use car2go and drivenow, which gives me instant access to a car should I need one right from my iphone. Its very seldom that I do though, I have a couple of bicycles and a motorcycle and that is almost always much faster & cheaper (and healtiher) + there's the subway etc. And if those dont work, I can always get a taxi. Having your own car in a city is just frustrating and an enormous waste of money and time.

Mercedes indirectly revealed most of the 2016 E-Class exterior
Surprise suprise. It looks like a smaller S-class, or a larger C-class. Take your pick. Mercedes are clearly taking the Audi approach to design. While it looks nice, it certainly isn't very exciting.

Tesla not on track for projected annual sales
Do you live on mars, or where exactly do people use their cars primarily for "exploring"? Here on earth most people use their cars to commute to work/school, go shopping etc. And the range of the Tesla, which you "refuel" at home over night, is good enough for pretty much everyone. And for long distance driving/"exploring" the Supercharger network covers most of the US AND Europe now. The only issue is the price.
