Chevrolet cuts 2014 Volt price by 5,000 USD to 34,995 USD
Amazing. It appears that even it its 4th year the Volt will still come with unpainted body panels. The most expensive car in the Chevy line, and still the skirting is bare. And this car has so much potential. That said, I'm still saving up for one...

Ford Fiesta 1.0-liter EcoBoost is Women's World Car of the Year
I thought this engine was only available with manual transmission. Isn't automatic the transmission of choice for the female gender? In any case, this engine needs to be mated with the PowerShift DSG.

Ford details the 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine
Now ford has the best possible small engine, but has no small city car that would be the best possible candidate for using this engine. I would love to see this 1.0L ExoBoost engine and the Ford Powershift transmission in a city car the size of Toyota's IQ. This powertrain should at least be put in the Ka, but now Ford plans to kill their only small car.

2014 Chevrolet Camaro facelift announced for New York Auto Show
I'd rather see a flex-fuel turbocharged 2.0L 4-cyl that is actually tuned to make use of the 105 octane in E85. It should easily be able to make 330hp on gasoline and 400hp on E85. In fact, my 10 year old EVO makes 330hp on gasoline and 400hp on E85, so I know this could easily be done with a modern engine.

Turbo Chevrolet Camaro Coupe revealed at Chicago Auto Show [video]
Why is a supercharged Camaro the star of the movie "Turbo"? Why not call the movie "Supercharged", or use a turbocharged Camaro? DUH!!! This is a total embarrassment to all cars with forced induction! My EVO would have been pleased to star in this movie!

2013 Ford Fiesta ST costs 16,995 GBP
This converts to $27,000 USD for the base model? That seems steep to me. In fact, I recall that is more than the Focus ST, which is $24,500 USD !!! OUCH!

Ford Ka could be axed
Ford has designed the nearly perfect small car drive train with the 1.0L 3-cyl EcoBoost coupled to the PowerShift transmission. But now they plan to kill off their only small car. So, they will put the 3-cyl EB in a much larger car, like the Focus; and it will end up being slower and have worse MPG than a mid-sized Prius. Very sad. Ka + 1.0L + powershift + $14,995 + USA = SALES!

Facel Vega concept revealed in two new photos
The side view looks terrific, but the rear view looks odd. Maybe it is just the camera angle. Not so sure about the 'Conestoga wagon' sized wheels either.

2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid price announced in L.A.
I’m very anxious to see this drive train make its appearance under the new Golf Carbon GTI 'light-weight' body; now THAT will be a serious hybrid in more ways than one.

2014 U.S.-spec Ford Fiesta ST heading to L.A. Auto Show [video]

Audi working on 235 mpg A1-based city car
Let's see... Toyota has been working on the Prius for 15 years now, it is in its 3rd generation, and gets 50 mpg. So Audi is going to produce a brand new city car model that gets 235 mpg in its first iteration. Am I right to be skeptical?

2015 Toyota Prius to feature an e-4WD system - report
I do hope this AWD Prius is a special AWD model and not the base Prius. This sounds like a very expensive answer to a question no one is asking. This is a Prius after all, not a competitor for the WRX, EVO or STI.

Lumma Design previews their tuning program for the 2013 Range Rover

2013 Corvette 8-speed auto gearbox not ready yet - report
I'm old enough to remember when electronic fuel injection first came out. A lot of true driving enthusiasts thought that carburetors simply could not be "improved" or "updated".

2014 Chevrolet Spark EV revealed [video]
WOW! Is that 400 ft. lbs. of torque correct? If so, it should be quicker that 8 sec to 60. Range should be approx. 65 miles, so plenty for the average commuter. Now, bring this to market at $24,999 and it will sell like hotcakes. At $40,000, not so much.

2013 Corvette 8-speed auto gearbox not ready yet - report
This is great news. It is long past time to step up the transmission technology on the ‘Vette. MOST modern sports cars come with an automated transmission. Some are not even available with a manual; nor are they available with carburetors, 8-tracks, or steel wheels either, and for good reason. Some owners may not like an ECU controlling their engine, but most car enthusiasts find it truly is superior to mechanical fueling and timing. Similarly, a computer controlled transmission makes the next logical evolutionary step in auto development, particularly for the auto enthusiast.

Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG breaks cover
This A45 would be a perfect candidate for a flex-fuel application. It could be rated at 300hp+ on 91oct and very likely 400hp+ on 105oct E85. My 10yr old 2.0L EVO makes 350hp on 91oct and 450hp on E85 with a stock factory turbo. MB could make a car that is both performance AND eco oriented. This is done all the time in the aftermarket. There is absolutely no reason why a modern-day manufacturer can't do the same.

Dodge Challenger SRT Project Ultraviolet previewed ahead of SEMA [video]
How about a flex-fuel 4-cyl engine with compound turbos tuned to actually use the 105 octane in E-85? Dodge makes some powerful V-8's and some high MPG 4-cyl entries, but we need an engine that gives us both power AND MPG. Just do it!

Next-gen Ford Focus RS to get a 350 hp 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine - report
I recall reading something about Ford working on a 2.3L EcoBoost that would be used in both the Focus and the Mustang. In any case, it will not be highly MPG effective. I would prefer to see a 1.6L at 250hp in a Fiesta RS. That would give both good performance as well as good MPG.

2013 Dodge Dart Aero can return 41 mpg US on the highway
Not bad at all, but I'm even more interested in knowing what the city mileage will be. Also, I thought that ZF was working on a 9-spd transmission that was going to improve MPG by another 16%. That would be 47.5 mpg - hybrid territory.

TMG EV P002 sets a new Nurburgring lap record
Wow! When is the street version of this going to be produced? I only live 3 miles from my office. I don't need a 100 mile range EV, but I could sure make use of this 469hp/664trq. Very impressive.

Greenpeace activists protest during Golf VII BlueMotion launch
73 miles to the gallon US? Come on, give us a break. This Bluemotion model will make the wife's Prius (at 45mpg) look like a gas hog. Greenpeace needs to find a real cause.

2013 Chevrolet Spark facelift & Orlando Turbo debut in Paris
It looks to me like the hood angle is a bit higher and has been enlarged (bulged?) a wee bit at the front. Do you think Chevy might offer the 1.4L turbo engine in a future 'Spark RS' or 'Spark SS' model? I hope so. And, throw in the new 7 speed DSG as well.

Honda Civic Type R confirmed for 2015
OK. Let's look at the math. A quick Internet search (thanks Al) reveals the EU population as 500,000,000 people with a total of 236,500,000 cars. The USA population is 312,000,000 people with a total of 254,000,000 cars. So this Civic Type R is being built only for the EU market for reasons of what exactly? And, it will take more than VTEC to set a record at the Nürburgring! Give this car a much needed turbo and intercooler, and make it flex-fuel.
