1957 Ferrari 335 Sport Scaglietti sells for $35M, most expensive ever [video]
I agree with you both... Of course it's a matter of perceived value on behalf of the bidder/ new owner when money is truly no object but it causes you to think of the mindset and oft-hidden premise behind such a monetary exchange. The fact that there are people out here whom can put this level of money down, however high the provenance, without blinking.. but wouldn't dare give one dollar/ pound/ Euro to someone dying of starvation..

Opel rules out putting the GT concept into production
Having never really looked at this concept until now, it is pretty damn "cool". Not quite my taste but I find it beguiling none-the-less. Makes me smile. The design and visual packaging speaks well to the lifestyle and personality of young, active people (a very substantial amount of potential consumers) and to that point, it does appear incredibly salable. And I'm all for red tires. Perhaps some cues from this concept will translate to production in the near future. It's just too cool not to.

Can't say I blame them - they'll put the money to better use. Greedy networks.

AMG Sport models to become Mercedes-AMGs
That's right; the AMG engine was not yet available as it did not arrive until 2001 with the introduction of SLK32. If memory serves correctly, at that point in history, AMG was not a fully incorporated/ funded performance wing of MB/Daimler - they were predominantly independent, sort of like how a general contractor would hire the same sub-contracting firm for some minor work over time, often using the sub's own product then deciding to buyout/incorporate. In the early years of the AMG/ MB relationship (aside from AMG acquiring and tuning MB vehicles for their own use) they offered separate items t o MB customers like rims/ trim upgrades/ engine upgrades (by customer request) and other varied product. It was not the in-house AMG brand that we know today where AMG variants featuring highly specialized engines and full packages are a part of the standard lineup. So in a way - this is MB returning to some of that nostalgic 1990's heritage - much like the design similarity shared among the this new generation (something I'll likely never come to terms with) but that's pretty much the deal a nutshell - there's likely much more info about the relationship if you search it.

F1's first-ever female driver passes away aged 89
May this awesome woman rest in peace. To think that in such an era where women were shunned from anything deviating from what was acceptable and expected of a woman, she pursued an extreme. I can only imagine the resistance she must've have endured but she apparently had a great support system. Trail blazer no doubt.

2017 Mercedes SLC goes topless in Detroit
This turned out to look quite decent, however I recently began to wonder why the SLC headlamp graphic (which rekindle that of the facelifted W212) was not better reiterated/ modernized for use on W213. It is rather striking on W212 and I would've found W213 that much more interesting if MB had made fresh use of a quad-lamp aesthetic. Perhaps they'll reapply it to future E variants.

2016 Mercedes E Class teased yet again, seems overly familiar
Whether it's a tease or headlamp display; I held hope right down to the lightly camouflaged spy captures that this new generation would have its own persona in respect to exterior design. The S and C are very well executed, while this E appears indecisive. It is still good-looking (220d not so much) and the technology is exemplary but the E did attain an almost cult-like global following due to the previous aesthetic, unique among the fleet. The size will mitigate cross-shopping the C but as always, it will be quite interesting to see how it fares against the forthcoming 5 series. Looking forward to that beastly E63!

Mercedes kicks off 2016 with new E-Class teaser
Where you see overpaid (actually underpaid in many instances), the aforementioned marques are tallying record sales despite the arguable lackluster as pertains to design - so some things are working quite well; via general design which has mass appeal and/or highly effective marketing. The industry is responding to changes in a market that is experiencing an influx of younger, tech-savvy buyers whom may not be dissuade by the visual similarities between the C and E, for instance, but are thinking in terms cabin space, stowage, technology and amenities within the aesthetic. While I'm not such a fan of the shared fascia across model ranges and I do miss the unique identity established by W210-W212(pre-facelift), W213 will be beautiful. It has a particular silhouette and ride-height which radiates the very elegance that has become synonymous to the E.

Which car is your dream Christmas gift?
Keeping it to recent autos; either a MB S63 Sedan, S63 Coupe or an AMG GT-S. I'll let Santa decide which of the three I most deserve, if not all. ...Otherwise an F-Pace will do.

Mercedes C-Class Convertible spied virtually undisguised
While I'm not thrilled that it's virtually a mini S-Class coupe in terms of exterior design - It does look fantastic, naturally. The coupe looks great in these images as well. I'm not a fan of convertibles but this is almost tempting. With strategic pricing it would surely do very well.

2016 Mercedes E-Class first videos with the interior
The black-on-black interior is working all sorts of magic on me. Rarely do I ever consider this combination attractive in a vehicle but this is sublime. However, the Burmester audio grilles do become rather cloying against the lighter trim and circular air vents. The fascia is more-or-less revealed at the 1:27 mark.

2016 Mercedes E-Class interior revealed
"Modernized" in this context simply refers to an upgrade on that which it is based. More specifically - giving the interior an appearance which suggests a more youthful/casual approach where the S-Class is more formal/stately - catering to a more traditional luxury taste (while it seamlessly bridges the generational gap normally seen in this class). Beyond the aesthetic, there are a new technologies and user interfaces implemented in this new E which will also be implemented on the the S update. "Modernized" does not suggest that the current S-Class interior is out of date/ "un-modern".

2016 Mercedes E-Class interior revealed
When you thought you knew exactly what to expect here's a surprise. Very beautiful interior. The door/ dash trimming options alone are enough for me to open the wallet. So well done. I personally prefer a four-spoke steering wheel on luxury sedans so I'll look forward to seeing the alternate options offered with that selection. The black-on-black interior depicted in the last frame of photo set is surprisingly attractive.

Mercedes S-Class facelift spied for the first time with no camo [video]
I like the revised headlamps - fits very well. Great should MB decide to keep body revisions to a bare minimum on the S. I could do without a facelift coming through the pipe every two weeks prior to the next generation. It is such a superlative design which should be allowed to age gracefully. I see the S several times daily and it has yet to loose a thread of class or beauty.

Koenigsegg Utagera concept designed by 15-year-old on display in Thailand
He did an excellent job. It is a stunning design by all accounts. When I was 15 years of age I certainly was not capable of formulating automotive design to such an exacting level as he is able to, although I was quite good. Granted access to automotive media and design technology is at an all time high at current day, one still has to possess the drive, vision and intellect to execute design at such a high level and he has it. Taking into account his very clear understanding or proportion, scale, use of nuance in the treatment of panels, aero and character lines and the all around ability to create a design with such high appeal and considering that this type of stylization could fall into gimmick territory in less capable hands. It is a gift. If supercar design is what inspires him to create then so be it. I probably don't need him to design an austere sedan but he will surely discover broader language, influence and learning if he so chooses. But heck, he's pretty much ready to go! I'd buy that Egg!

Mercedes-Benz Concept IAA new pics and videos from Siegerland Airport
Super! I love the fascia and stance in the 3/4 perspective. The tail has not grown on me as of yet but the aero technology and its successes are indeed triumphant. The aerodynamic hub-caps alone are a marvel to behold. It would be interesting to see how (if) the sinuous panels translate to a future production sedan. Perhaps the AMG GT-based Panamera competitor will realize this beautiful "purity".

Mercedes-AMG allegedly plotting new SLR with hybrid power for 2018 launch
So who's buying me a time machine for Christmas? I'll be on cloud 9 forever should MB produce a new rear mid-engined hypercar. The new door concept for the front-mount sounds quite thrilling but I'll take a rain-check on that.

Camouflaged Mercedes-AMG E63 arrives at the Nurburgring for more tests [video]
As apparent by the body control witnessed in the clip; I simply implied that some form of upgraded MB drive technology is at work - hence "on rocks". Whether or not it will be branded as "Magic Body" or utilize an alternate nomenclature exclusive to the E (yet having the very same purpose) will be revealed in time. It's all about reading in between the lines - but thanks!

Replayed. Just unreal. I cannot believe the level of power coupled with the handling and precision at such high speed. Magic Body and Sport+ on rocks. I was waiting for something to break.. the car, the track, my screen, something. Even in camo it is a sexy menace. The exhaust note beautifully dense.. one of the very best.

2017 Mercedes-Benz GL facelift officially revealed as the new GLS
Let's hope that the next generation will be worthy of the competitive class. I would want a flagship MB SUV to be equivalent to the S-Class saloon. If you are shopping this segment, then the Range will more than hold its own. The Bentayga (although not a fan) and forthcoming Rolls Royce will redefine the market. Luxing-up the interior and branding with Maybach trim will only hurt the Maybach brand. This model needs to be spectacular from the inside-out before receiving the Maybach marque especially since it's likely that the exterior/interior of a Maybach spec GLS won't deviate much from the base model.. The current Maybach S has provided the marque with hope for new life - don't damage it with the G.
