DaimlerChrysler is committed

Despite the considerable losses with this project, DaimlerChrysler is committed to updating and continuing its Smart model range, however, only with the ForTwo version as convertible and hardtop. All other possible variants – the Smart ForFour, the roadster-coupe and the SUV-ForMore - have been dumped.

These latest photos from recent testing in Austria and California are showing two different prototypes of the ForTwo convertible. Under the black tape, there are new headlamps and taillights, a new front grille and flush-fitted door handles, plus more aerodynamic door mirrors.

The next generation Smart ForTwo will grow about 20cm in overall length and will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 2007.

The revamped Diesel engine will make the Smart even more economical and is said to turn the little vehicle into a true three-litre car. Furthermore DaimlerChrysler will introduce the fuel-engined version of the next Smart ForTwo for the first time also in the United States.
