Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California has shone a little of his celebrity luster on the Scorpion, a hydrogen-assisted supercar from the Ronn Motor Company of Texas.

The Governor had read an article in Men's Journal about the company and, being an auto enthusiast with solid environmental credentials, requested a test drive of the Scorpion. The governor was accompanied by company founder and CEO Ronn Maxwell, who was likely pleased to have the publicity.

Ronn Motor Company claims the Scorpion has a mileage rating of 40 miles per gallon (5.88 liters/100 km) and can reach approximately 200 mph (320 km/h). Those are pretty much all the performance details available right now.

As California governor, Schwarzenegger has implemented the strictest emissions code in the US, and some California rules are tighter than those in Europe (such as for NO-x gases). And he has previously been seen in a Tesla, an electric roadster from Tesla Motors, a California company. And he's a widely known star all around the world. His endorsement carries a lot of weight.

Based in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, Ronn Motor Company is an engineering firm that develops car technologies such as hydrogen fuel, fuel cells, and plug-in electric systems.

Press Release

On Tuesday, March 10, 2009, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger test drove Ronn Motor Company's (PINKSHEETS: RNNM) acclaimed ScorpionTM, a hydrogen assisted eco-exotic sports car capable of hitting 40 miles per gallon and 200 miles per hour. The test drive with Ronn Motor's founder and CEO Ronn Maxwell in the passenger seat, came after Schwarzenegger read a recent article in Men's Journal which proclaimed the ScorpionTM as "God's Own Supercar."

Schwarzenegger is consistently on record as an advocate of fuel efficiency and as an automobile enthusiast. His well-publicized interest in the Hummer was seen as a critical moment in that brand's expansion and popularity. Additionally and according to the Washington Post, Schwarzenegger had one of his beloved Hummers retooled to run on alternative fuels. In 2006, the actor-turned-governor signed the nation's first environmental law of its kind, committing the state to lowering its greenhouse gas production to 1990 levels by 2020 and setting up an international program that provides manufacturers with incentives to lower carbon emissions by 2012.

After receiving an inquiry from Schwarzenegger directly after the Men's Journal hit newsstands, Maxwell fulfilled his promise to bring the car to California, parking the curvaceous ScorpionTM on the steps of the Capital building for a photo-op with the news media and a curious public.

During the press conference, the governor talked about his ongoing support of small boutique companies such as Ronn Motor Company, which are developing much needed alternative energy technologies so that America can reclaim its leadership in the automotive industry. Schwarzenegger asserted his desire that the Big 3 auto makers take more initiative in alternative energy solutions that are good for the country. The Governor also stated that he was pleased with Ronn Motor Company for creating new jobs and opportunities for California.

Ronn Maxwell, CEO of Ronn Motors, stated, "We are very humbled and excited that the Governor has expressed a real enthusiasm in the technologies that we have developed, as well as his interest in potentially purchasing a ScorpionTM. We'd like nothing more than this icon of pop culture and politics to be a ScorpionTM owner and are looking forward to a long term relationship with Governor Schwarzenegger."
