Press Release

Design Philosophy

The i30 CW follows a new wagon design philosophy. It was built to inspire a new generation of customers who are looking for a vehicle that offers the practicality of a conventional wagon but an added measure of flexibility and style. Instead of adhering to the conventional wagon body type, Hyundai chose to integrate MPV crossover elements. The result is a more emotional vehicle that combines the multi-functional convenience of a van with the elegant sophistication of an estate wagon.

Elegant and cultivated style

Like the i30 hatchback, the i30 CW expresses Hyundai’s new European design language. On the outside, Hyundai has kept the distinguished frontal styling of its sibling, with its sporty but non-aggressive appearance. The pronounced dual intake flows smoothly into the bonnet and A pillar lines. The clearly defined unbroken waistline unifies the classic proportions.

A more cultivated design language

The effect is an exciting, yet elegant shape, giving a dynamic impression of performance and capability. The upswept tailgate and the rear lights create a distinctive athletic posture. All elements of the design contribute a powerful sense of proportion and purpose.

i-deal interior

Inside the i30 CW, Hyundai fully focused on class-leading comfort, functionality and practicality, all in the same elegant style that is displayed on the outside. Dynamic refinement has been applied to every aspect, including air management, the light airy ambience, seating comfort and intuitive ergonomics.

Blue instrument lighting

The blue backlit instrument panel, already adopted in the i30 hatchback, the Hyundai Coupe, the new Santa Fe and upper range Hyundai’s, is a distinctive feature. The advantages of the blue backlit gauges are less eyestrain and fatigue under all ambient light conditions, helping to maintain peak driver alertness and vision. The blue backlighting is a signature feature of the Hyundai brand giving occupants a reassuring reminder that they are traveling safely.

The Clarity of the instruments

The clean, crisp layout of the instruments, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, supportive sporty seats and optimal gearshift positioning are all evidence of the desire to create an emotional family car that abounds in driving pleasure. For extra clarity, blue LED backlighting technology has been applied for the center information panel, gauge cluster and warning lights. Generously-sized directional air vents ensure optimum air flow throughout the cabin. Two-tone interior trim, with special attention to the upholstery fabrics and materials has produced an elegant and fresh, highly “European” interior environment.

The ergonomics of dynamic refinement

Inspiring customers is at the heart of Hyundai’s vehicle philosophy. Hence, the i30 CW features an intelligent, high-quality interior. Intuitive ergonomics are evident in all of the minor controls. The convenience of the steering wheel audio/communication switches and column stalks, together with the easy–to- operate switches for heating, air conditioning and power windows and mirrors amply demonstrate this. The easy access to the integrated audio system, map pockets and other stowage and storage areas are another Hyundai strength that characterizes the i30 CW. Even the positioning and precise feel of the automatic gearshift has been further optimized.

The ideal integrated interior

The i30 CW’s dimensions at 4,475 mm long, 1,775 mm wide and 1,520 mm high, fully meet current C segment wagon expectations. In addition, the long wheelbase of 2,700 mm brings the benefits of interior spaciousness. The extra space results in increased freedom of movement, optimal seat and instrument positioning, and increased comfort. Both front and rear head and legroom are well above the accepted average.

In the rear, the i30 CW offers fully contoured supportive seats, increased legroom over most rivals and excellent cabin air management. For the front seat occupants, height adjustable seats and lumbar support could not be more easily placed or operated. With excellent legroom, drivers can enjoy the ride in a very comfortable setting.

Space intelligence

In addition to its generous occupant space, the i30 CW also features 415 liters load volume with the rear seats upright. With the rear seats folded flat, the load volume is increased to 1,395 liters.

Equipment

Hyundai is recognized for its generosity of equipment at all trim levels, and the i30 CW continues this tradition. The range of standard equipment, combined with a full selection of affordable extras, allows i30 CW customers to fully tailor their car to their wishes.

A wide Selection

The i30 CW will be available in four different trim levels. Even the entry level “Classic” trim offers an abundant array of features, an integrated Audio system (Radio+CD+MP3+USB+AUX), driver seat height adjuster, front power windows and active headrest. The more upscale “Comfort” offers electric heated and body-colored outside mirrors, keyless entry, driver seat lumbar support, and front fog lamps. The sportier “Style” version is available with 16” alloy wheels, 205/55 R16 tires, tire pressure monitor, semi-leather seats and manual air conditioning all standard. The top-of-the-range version “Premium” lives up to expectations by offering all of the above plus automatic air conditioning, ESP, ECM mirror, park distance control, cruise control and a rain sensor. ESP of course is available for all versions and all trims as an option, while for the most European markets ESP will be standard feature.

Storage, stowage and convenience

As in any Hyundai, the utility and convenience in the i30 CW has not been overlooked. Depending on trim levels, a sunglass holder, a cup holder, a central console storage, easy to reach door map pockets, seat rear pockets and central armrest mounted storage, and rear cup holders are additional convenient features. The capacious glove compartment is also cooled when air conditioning is fitted. In the rear a standard luggage cover and an optional restraining net enable optimal stowage. The i30 CW also features a wide range of convenience features including i-pod plug-ins, center armrests (Rear), seatback tables, cargo security screen, roof rack and cargo nets.

Engines and Transmissions

A choice of two petrol and three diesel power options, combined with manual or automatic transmission, means the i30 CW can meet virtually every powertrain preference.

The clear power of inspiration

At the entry-level, the all-new all-aluminum Gamma 1.6 liter engine gives 115/122 hp and 154 Nm torque, while the range topping 2.0 liter Beta II offers 143 hp with 186 Nm torque. All petrol engines have 16v CVVT and variable inlet technology.

In terms of diesel, a new 1.6 liter CRDi is available in 90 hp / 235 Nm torque and 115 hp / 255 Nm torque versions. At the top end, the 2.0 liter CRDi puts out an exhilarating 140 hp with 304 Nm torque. All feature variable geometry turbo charging (VGT), low friction balance shaft technology and high-pressure common rail diesel injection for minimized engine originated NVH. To meet stringent new environmental regulations, all i30 CW diesels are fitted with DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).

Real driving satisfaction

Performance means more than just engine output. That is why transmission packages have been optimized for real driving satisfaction.

For adventurous driving spirit, an elegant, yet stylish step gate shift lever has been adopted, allowing extra precise control of the new i30 CW’s automatic transmission.

The new i30 CW’s manual gearbox also boasts newly developed high-efficiency features that reduce noise and enhance durability. The 5-speed all-synchro transmission of the i30 CW has been specifically engineered to match the sporting nature of the car with precise, short throw shifts. The 2.0 diesel features a new 6-speed manual transmission. A 4-speed automatic transmission is available in both the 1.6 and 2.0 gasoline engines, and the 1.6 diesel (high power) engine.

Dynamic & cultivated driving experience

In any of the five available launch engines versions, the Hyundai i30 CW offers a dynamic, yet cultivated driving experience. MacPherson strut front suspensions and multi-link rear suspension have been fitted to perfectly complement the high design rigidity. Ventilated 15 inch front and solid 14-inch rear discs* with 4-channel ABS and ESP* mean the dynamic appearance is matched to real on-road handling control. A range of 15, 16 inch steel and 15, 16 and 17 inch alloy wheels, with low and ultra-low profile tires add visual impact to the sporting dynamics. The result is a car that simply demands to be driven.

Safety Aspects

Like with every other Hyundai, safety was a top development goal for Hyundai’s i30 series. Hence, the i30 CW has optional electronic stability program (ESP) and standard brake-support systems (ABS) as active safety features.

Passive Safety

In terms of passive safety, it features dual front, side, and curtain airbags, active headrests, seatbelt pretensioning and seatbelt reminders. Also, as with every Hyundai vehicle, the passive safety features are fully grounded in a state-of-the-art safety structure. This includes deformable zones, occupant protection cell and 3-way load distribution technology. Further rigidity has been achieved with reinforced A pillars, strengthened bulkhead, front and side members, and toughened B and C pillars.

The i30 CW is also equipped with many peace-of-mind features. Front active headrests are standard with Comfort level and upwards while electro chromatic self-dipping mirrors reduce night driving eyestrain. The heated power exterior mirrors fold electrically to prevent breakage in tight situations and the rear mounted park distance control with audible warning are standard on the Premium trim and optionally available in the Comfort and Style trim.

ABS / ESP

Four-channel ABS is standard and de-selectable ESP is optional (standard on Premium) on the i30 CW for advanced active safety.
