Fisker Brings 'Eco-Chic' to Premium Car Segment

Most recognized for its Tramonto and Latigo CS custom sportscars, Fisker Coachbuild, founded by former BMW and Aston Martin designers Bernhard Koehler and Henrik Fisker, brings some 'eco-chic' to the premium luxury car segment. Today Fisker Coachbuild, LLC announced that it has launched a joint venture with Quantum Technologies in Fisker Automotive, Inc. that will produce a range of environmentally friendly premium cars.

Fisker Automotive's first production car will be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2008, and with prices starting at under $100,000 the initial annual production is set at 15,000 vehicles. With Henrik Fisker in charge, the man behind the BMW Z8 and Aston Martin's DB9 and V8 Vantage, the design can't really go wrong. Technology development for the first production car is already well underway and Quantum's Quantum Drive plug-in hybrid technology and chassis layout will be provided exclusively for Fisker Automotive.

CEO Henrik Fisker confirmed that Fisker Automotive will retain the red-blue Fisker badge and that the brand is about letting "people drive beautiful cars that make environmental sense - cars that are eco-chic and will have less of an impact on global warming." Alan Niedzwiecki, CEO for Quantum Technologies, added that by combining efforts with Henrik Fisker, Fisker Automotive can "produce a car that makes a difference to the environment - without sacrificing the luxury that accompanies the finest automobiles."

Today's press release gave no further details about the first production Fisker, i.e. whether it will be a coupe, grand tourer or roadster or something completely different. His creations range from the BMW Z8, Aston Martin DB9 & V8 Vantage to his most recent creations – the Tramonto and Latigo CS, designed under the Fisker Coachbuild nameplate.  Fisker Automotive will retain the orange and blue logo originated at Fisker
