Press Release
The Engine
With its 500 hp / 368 kW 12-cylinder engine and two turbochargers the new Mercedes S 600 redefined the performance standards for luxury automobiles. Now BRABUS raises the bar even more. The new BRABUS S V12 Biturbo increased-displacement engine marks the top-of-the-line of the extensive BRABUS tuning program. Its 640 hp / 471 kW and gigantic maximum torque of 1,026 Nm catapult the S 600 in just 4.3 seconds to 100 km/h. The electronically limited top seed of 310 km/h make the tuned S 600 one of the world's fastest sedans.
In October 1996 the BRABUS E V12 with an electronically limited top speed of 330 km/h entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the "World's Fastest Sedan." Based on the new Mercedes E-Class W211 platform BRABUS now presents the BRABUS E V12 Concept Car first shown in March 2003 at the Geneva Motor Show. This new BRABUS E V12 Concept Car is also powered by a 640 hp / 471 kW twelve-cylinder bi-turbo engine. With its top speed of 340 km/h the BRABUS E V12 Concept Car follows in the footsteps of its world-famous predecessor, which opened the door to a new level of power and performance for sporty sedans.
Performance on a level of a purebred sports car in combination with the unique comfort of the Mercedes S-Class: The new BRABUS S V12 Biturbo increased-displacement engine, which is also available for the CL 600 Coupe and the SL 600 Roadster, combines these two previously almost entirely mutually exclusive characteristics to perfection. The leap from standard 500 hp / 368 kW from 5.5-liter displacement to 640 hp / 471 kW from 6.3 liters is the result of a complete redesign of the V12 with two turbochargers.
The displacement increase is facilitated with a custom crankshaft milled from one piece, precision-balanced piston rods, and pistons with larger diameter. Custom camshafts with altered timing, a stainless steel high-performance exhaust system with high-flow metal catalysts and new mapping for the engine electronics complete the engine conversion. Optimal lubrication is essential with this kind of power. That's why engine, custom five-speed automatic transmission and rear differential are all operated with high-performance lubricants from BRABUS technology partner ARAL.

E V12 Concept Details
The BRABUS E V12 Concept Car offers a first preview of the production version of the
BRABUS E V12, which will be built in small-series production starting in Summer 2003. No base price has been set as of yet but it is expected to be in the neighborhood of 300,000 Euros.
The enormous performance necessitates the use of special tires: BRABUS technology partner Michelin supplies the exclusive footwear for this car: The multi-piece BRABUS Monoblock VI light-alloy wheels in sizes 8.5Jx19 on the front axle and 9.5Jx19 in the rear are fitted with Michelin high-performance tires in size 255/35 ZR 19 in front combined with 285/30 ZR 19 tires on the rear axle.
BRABUS also custom-developed a matching BRABUS sport suspension and stronger sway bars. In addition BRABUS equips the new E V12 with a custom high-performance brake system matched to the electro-hydraulic SBC brake system of the E-Class. It features 375-millimeter disks and 12-piston aluminum calipers on the front axle and 6-piston calipers and 355-millimeter disks in the rear.
Aerodynamics play an essential role at the extremely high speeds effortlessly attained by the 12-cylinder sedan: The BRABUS front bumper with integrated spoiler not only offers exciting looks, it also reduces lift at the front axle, thus improving directional stability at high speeds.
The BRABUS side skirts give the sedan a lower and sleeker appearance. They also offer another interesting feature: Pulling on the inside door handle or pushing the button on the keyless-entry remote activates entry lights located in the underside of the skirts. They illuminate the ground next to the E-Class, making exiting and entering the vehicle in the dark even safer.
The strikingly styled BRABUS rear apron rounds out the sporty yet elegant exterior design of the E V12 harmoniously.
The interior of the BRABUS E V12 Concept Car offers a very special ambiance. The four-door car is adorned with an exclusive BRABUS fully leather interior made from a combination of especially soft yet highly durable BRABUS Mastik leather and Alcantara. Inlays made from genuine carbon in the dashboard, center console and door panels create a sporty ambiance. The sedan further features a state-of-the-art BRABUS multimedia package with DVD player and LCD monitors integrated into the back of the front headrests.
S 600 Biturbo - BRABUS S V12 Program
But BRABUS doesn't just offer more driving fun in the form of more power. The exclusive sport concept for the S 600 also includes professional modifications to brakes, suspension and aerodynamics.
To keep the enormous performance safely in check at all times the new S 600 can be equipped with the BRABUS high-performance brake system, which was developed specifically for the big Mercedes models. The system comprises 375 x 36 mm vented and perforated disks with 12-piston fixed calipers on the front axle, and six-piston fixed calipers on 355 x 28 mm disks in the rear.
Absolutely essential for the safe attainment of this kind of performance are attractive BRABUS Monoblock VI light-alloy wheels. The multi-piece BRABUS Monoblock VI double-spoke wheels in sizes 9.5Jx20 in front and 10Jx20 on the rear axle are fitted with Michelin or Pirelli high-performance tires in sizes 245/35 ZR 20 and 275/30 ZR 20.
Specifically matched to this tire/wheel combination is the BRABUS suspension module for the ABC suspension. With it the S 600's ride becomes somewhat sportier but still comfortable while the body is lowered by about 20 millimeters.
To add sporty highlights to the elegant lines of the facelift generation of the Mercedes S-Class the BRABUS designers developed a new aerodynamic-enhancement kit. The BRABUS front bumper with integrated spoiler features four auxiliary headlights and gives the luxury sedan an even more striking appearance while at the same time reducing lift on the front axle.
Like its counterpart in the front the BRABUS rear apron imply replaces the production bumper entirely. BRABUS side sills with integrated entry lights are a custom BRABUS development. Pushing a button on the keyless-entry remote or pulling on the inside door handles activates five LED lights on the underside of the sills. These lights illuminate the ground next to the vehicle, making entering and exiting the vehicle safe in the dark.
Luxurious and highly individualized interiors are a BRABUS specialty. The range of exclusive accessories includes sill plates with BRABUS logo, ergonomically shaped safety steering wheels with airbag and an exclusive BRABUS interior made from a combination of especially soft yet highly durable BRABUS Mastik and Alcantara leathers.
SL 600 Biturbo - BRABUS S V12 Program
Form and function at the highest levels of perfection: The BRABUS aerodynamic-enhancement parts for all current SL models offer sporty yet elegant looks and improved aerodynamic properties. At high speeds they further reduce lift on the front axle thus further improving directional stability. The BRABUS front apron from high-quality Pur-R-Rim with four auxiliary headlights was designed to be fastened to the original mounting points, making an exchange for the production bumper fast and easy.
The BRABUS side sills create an especially aerodynamic transition between the wheelhouses and on top of that offer another feature that is as exciting as it is useful: Pushing a button on the remote control of the keyless-entry system or pulling on the inside door handle activates four LED lights on the underside of each sill. They illuminate the ground next to the vehicle, avoiding many unfortunate steps into puddles or holes that may lurk in the dark.
The BRABUS designer suit for the new SL is rounded out by the BRABUS rear apron with integrated diffuser. It was also designed to replace its production counterpart seamlessly.
Just as important for a customized look are one-piece and multi-piece BRABUS Monoblock light-alloy wheels, which can be mounted on the new roadster in three different designs and sizes (18-, 19- and 20-inch). The largest version for the new SL combines multi-piece BRABUS Monoblock VI wheels in sizes 9Jx20 in front and 255/35 ZR 20 tires with 10.5Jx20 wheels and 305/25 ZR 20 tires on the rear axle.
To further improve the already impressive handling of the current SL roadster BRABUS developed an electronic module for the ABC suspension, which lowers the vehicle's body by about 15 millimeters.
The BRABUS high-performance brake system with ventilated and perforated super-size 375 x 36 mm disks and 12-piston fixed calipers in front, and ventilated and perforated 355 x 28 mm disks and six-piston fixed calipers on the rear axle easily handles even the most extreme stress.
Luxurious and highly individualized interiors are yet another BRABUS specialty. The range of exclusive accessories includes sill plates made from genuine carbon with illuminated BRABUS logo, ergonomically shaped safety steering wheels with airbag and heated rim, a speedometer with 360 km/h scale and genuine carbon interior trim. BRABUS also offers the integration of a DVD changer to upgrade the COMAND system.
In addition the company-own upholstery shop creates exclusive BRABUS interiors from a combination of especially soft yet highly durable BRABUS Mastik and Alcantara leathers.
