Factory-integrated special protection rated to B4 level
When it came to developing the optional special-protection features, the Maybach engineers were able to draw on the many years of experience acquired by the sister brand Mercedes-Benz with its Guard models. These vehicles are in service all over the world and are universally renowned for their high standard of security which has been achieved through many years of close cooperation with nationally and internationally recognised security authorities. This allows the specialists to align their security technology with the latest requirements and ensures that they are able to continue developing their extensive experience in the field of vehicle protection technology and ballistics. Like the Mercedes Guard models, the new Maybach Guard is based on the concept of integrated special protection. This means that the protective features - such as those used for the doors, rear wall, side panels, roof lining and firewall - are not retrofitted to a finished vehicle as an afterthought, but are instead integrated into the bodyshell in a dedicated manufacturing environment. The state-of-the-art Maybach "Manufaktur" is ideally suited to this process. It is here that highly skilled specialists with unrivalled technical know-how carefully integrate special-protection features into the vehicles as they are built. This approach makes it possible to protect areas which could not be equipped with aftermarket security features without making significant modifications to the body structure or reducing the interior dimensions. This philosophy of integrated special protection means that even the smallest details benefit from highly effective solutions, such as the sophisticated protection features which the experts have devised for potential weak points like door locks, gaps around doors and cable passages. A Maybach Guard thus offers seamless, all-over protection. Externally, a Maybach Guard is almost indistinguishable from a Maybach Saloon without special protection. The only feature which Maybach Guard customers have to forego for the sake of increased security is the panoramic glass roof. The passenger compartment is able to provide a high level of resistance to attack because it is surrounded by protective elements consisting of state-of-the-art materials such as glass/plastic combinations and high-strength special steel. The steel offers resistance to bullet impacts while aramid plastic fibres provide additional splinter protection for the interior. Additional security features of the Maybach Guard include a protected fuel tank, run-flat tyres and a special alarm system. The latter, which can be activated from any seat in the vehicle, locks the doors and alerts the outside world by means of visible and audible alarm signals. Communication with persons outside the vehicle is also possible by means of an intercom. Nor do Maybach Guard customers have to accept any compromises when it comes to ride comfort: the protection specialists were able to establish and refine all the necessary modifications as early as the development phase. As a result, the outstanding ride characteristics of the Maybach Saloon are maintained fully, despite the extra weight of the Guard version.
