Awards for World's Best Suppliers of the VW Group

Awards presented in Golfsburg
The 25 best suppliers of the Volkswagen Group in 2002 received the Volkswagen Group Award in Golfsburg on Wednesday evening following a drive presentation of the new Golf V. The winners come from four European countries, the USA and Japan. The awards were presented by Dr. Bernd Pischetsrieder, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, and Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG responsible for supply. "Our warm thanks go to all award-winners for their work," said Dr. Bernd Pischetsrieder. "We hope this excellent co-operation will continue, and we will not cease in our joint efforts to do better." Honouring the award-winning suppliers, Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz emphasised: "Award-winners include major international corporations and national small and medium-sized enterprises alike. And it is precisely this variety and diversity in our supply partners that makes the Volkswagen Group so successful. We want to co-operate with the best." The Volkswagen Award is presented in five categories: excellence in development, product quality, logistics, entrepreneurial performance and environmental awareness. The category of excellence in development reflects innovation capabilities, equipment, project competence, method competence and the quality of co-operation. Product quality encompasses the quality of series-production supplies as well as the overall quality performance of the supplier. In the logistics category, attention focuses on compliance with delivery deadlines and quantities, flexible deliveries and communication behaviour. Exceptional entrepreneurial performance is measured by flexibility with respect to new series and innovation compatibilities in terms of cost optimization and process improvements. The award for environmental awareness is based on the submission of life cycle assessments in accordance with the Volkswagen standard, the availability of an effective environmental management system and vehicle-related environmental innovation competence. According to Garcia Sanz: "The 2002 award-winners have demonstrated their commitment in long-term co-operation with the Volkswagen Group founded on partnership. Investment in new locations and participation in new concepts confirm a strategic, entrepreneurial approach oriented to the long term." In 2002, the total value of goods and services purchased by the Volkswagen Group amounted to approximately € 57.2 billion. Once again, the Group, with its Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, SEAT, Škoda Auto, Volkswagen and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brands, was one of the world's largest private-sector purchasers.
