Subaru XV revealed in Frankfurt
September 15, 2011
@droid_dtm: so far, there's been no detailed specs announced, so assuming these are comparably sized (I'm thinking like BMW X5/X6) then again I think my point is valid. The Impreza and Forester aren't that far apart dimensionally and I doubt the XV would be either. These "niche" vehicles have me puzzled because they don't really offer anything better than the SUV style and usually cost more and offer less for the price.
@PAA - what exactly do you drive now and what exacty do you want to drive? No, they're not the prettiest vehicle out there, but they make up for it with substance for their driving dynamics for the most part.
Chevrolet Camaro Convertible gets trial by water [video]

Probably just as well that the Sopranos ended. They couldn't use this car even though a guy fit in the trunk - he came out alive!
BMW 5-Series GT - officially a mistake
May 24, 2011
OK, as an owner of an '08 535XiT, I have to say that BMW is racking up the points against itself: problematic engines, electronics and a sub-par level of options offered compared with the sedan is part of the wagon's poor sales. While I love the car when it's fully functional, I have to say I'm looking elsewhere when I'm looking to replace it. BMW's marketing dept. should have some heads roll, but whoever came up with the 5GT seriously needs to figure out what kind of niche marketing they're trying to fill because it's non-existent! Had BMW offered a 5er touring with a diesel, a v8, the M, and all the handling options available in Europe, perhaps it would have sold better in the US and Canada. I'd love to see if the marketing "gurus" would try to offer the 5er sedan with one engine what would happen? Damn, just by suggesting it, they'll probably now try it...
Audi and MIT envision the future of GPS navigation [video]
May 6, 2011
You're right o3n1k - while watching the video, it was easy to become immersed in the distractions provided by the GPS. I assume that this demo was more to do with showing an innovation as opposed to an actual test drive with the system active. Still, as suggested by eddie something that would be handy would be to be alerted to intersection issues as well as upcoming emergency vehicles. The downside is much like what Tom-Tom is going through - selling the data to government who can use the data to prosecute as opposed to actually developing a safer driving environment. My car has a heads up display with navigation and I have to say I don't feel it's a distraction partially because it's minimalistic in it's display of information and limited to only 3-5 colours.
2012 BMW M5 to offer all-wheel drive - report
April 9, 2011
Yes, they make an X5M, but they should call this one the M5-dynamicadaptiveSXdrive (given BMW's foray into gawd-awful nomenclature). Anyone else notice that there's no longer a handbrake either? I know that everything is getting nannified, but this latest iteration is truly taking the drivers element out of the car - fatter, less enthusiastic, more pedestrian. The final nail will probably come in the next generation when no manual will be offered, if they even offer a "sports" model.
BMW M3 Pickup spied for first time
March 15, 2011
OK - so it's official! BMW has completely and utterly lost it with this POS! Signs were on the wall with the X6 and the 5GT, but this is simply the worst idea they've come up with.

An automatic-only BMW M5?
February 18, 2011
Ahh! The demise of a leader. As long as other manufacturers produce vehicles with manuals and better performing DCTs this "boutique" marquee will decline. I wonder if these engines will have the same turbocharger/fuel pump issues that the N54 had? Any late model BMW with turboed engines have had severe problems, and a litany of other non-engine issues as well - hence why they're near the bottom of the quality polls like most of the other high-end brands (Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar).
Ford sues Ferrari over 'F150' name
February 14, 2011
While I agree that the moniker issue seems really silly, remember what happened to Ford over the rights to "GT40" - lost the rights to a guy who wanted multi-millions to regain the rights and thus why the new one is called the "GT". If Ferrari reversed this situation, then would it be any more acceptable? It's too bad that these things come to pass, and in the end only ends up costing the consumer.
BMW offers 5-seater X6 as part of new options package
February 10, 2011
I wonder how tall the people are in the pictures - they look a little hunched over. Just wait til they hit that first pothole!
What they failed to include is a second option needed to accommodate 3 in the back seat called a sawzall - to open up the roof. Of course, that would void any warranties as when water leaks into the trunk it'll fry all the electronics stored there and of course cutting into the roof probably messes up the structural integrity of the ve-hick-ill.
