It's not quite true to say Mercedes invented the Automobile.
Long before (1769) the French ''Fardier de Cugnot'' was the first vehicle to move on its own wheels with its own power.
Mercedes made something that was more like today's car. But the mean to arrive to that was developed by many long before.
We agree to say Mercedes invented the car, but to my opinion the automobile is not an invension like the bulb, but more a long term research...
