I can't think of a single Japanese maker that is currently making a cohesive and compelling design statement with their line-up. I still like Audi, but Germany's other makers - Mercedes, BMW, VW - have ranges that are uneven at best, and frequently unlovely in their particulars. On the other hand, three makes I'd never considered - weren't ever on my radar - seem to be producing pretty decent and coherent product lines: Buick, Hyundai and Kia. I'd never have believed it.

There are those for whom the Buick nameplate will always be an old man's car. I think the Regal Turbo is smart looking, but still refer to it as the Buick Pacemaker.

MINI Coupe tentatively revealed - official details released I agree that MINI seems to be slicing the pie a little thin here, but I get the argument for the coupe: lighter weight, lower center of gravity (less glass, fewer seats, lowered aluminum roof) equals superior handling for the same reasons a Cooper out-handles the 'more-functional' Countryman. Do I want one? No: too ugly.
