Subaru Trezia debuts in Geneva
March 2, 2011
Do your homework, charlemagne. The Trezia directly replaces the Justy, which hasn't been a Subaru-developed car since its first generation. In the past it's been a rebadged Suzuki and a rebadged Daihatsu (which was itself a rebadged Toyota, since Toyota owns Daihatsu). So the Toyobaru has been a reality in this segment since long before Toyota bought a stake in Subaru.

I'm not so sure about that. The doors look similar but they're not the same. Note the position of the rear door handles, or the distance between either handle and the windowsill. I think what we're seeing is an actual car with a lot of disguise. The good news is that the goofy wheel arches seem to be going away, but overall it looks to be an evolutionary design. I agree, though, on the lack of E cues!

It's a plastic disguise.

This is neither a current S-Class body nor does it have any E-Class parts on it (other than the mirrors, which many MB models share). Where do either of those statements come from?
Mercedes launches new slogan: The best or nothing

The line was Gottlieb Daimler's personal motto, and was the de-facto tagline of the brand upon the patenting of the first car. In a sense, then, it's a revival the very first tagline in automotive history.
I believe "Unlike Any Other" was a US-only tagline, and it's not been used for a few years now. It was an attempt to revive "Engineered like no other car in the world" in a modern way (and without infringing on Sony's tagline of "Like no other").

Wow, someone dropped out of charm school. Not sure what qualifies you to call me a couch potato. (I work in the auto industry and am a former BMW owner, and I think you mean "armchair quarterback" anyway.) The Pontiac line was hyperbole, the point being that BMW's overdone styling, in my opinion, will not age as well as its more businesslike designs, which I noted I'm pleased to see returning. And sales success does not make something beautiful. Oh, and you misspelled Bangle.

So now BMW is free to apply ribbed lower-body cladding or make the 5GT even more Aztek-like? The point is that BMWs became overstyled and felt less like true BMWs. They began to look like their own imitators, whether that be Pontiac or whoever does it next. And there are still plenty of Pontiacs on the road, so it's relief that the next 5er won't look even more like a 5-year-old Grand Prix than the current one does.

These things I now know:
1. BMW has recoiled in fear from the Bangle backlash.
2. "Same sausage, different lengths" is back!
3. Only BMW's niche products (sports cars and S-whatever-V hatchbacks) will have edgy styling (and by edgy I mean mutations on wheels).
4. I kinda like it. The new models might be less startling than the previous 3, 5 and 7, but they'll certainly age better and not be mistaken for Pontiacs. 2002s and E21, E30, E36 and even E46 3-series were conservative but they all still look great, and like the work of the engineers mattered more than the egos of the designers.
