@sideskraper Thanks for that. That's a reply I can appreciate, solid counterpoints and explanation. Cheers
F1 agrees to push ahead with new engines in 2013

Seeing as it was bro weekend over on Jalopnik, I'll do the honors: Lol, you mad bro? You mad? If BMW can take their N/A 3.0 straight six and twin-turbo it (N52 to N54), granted with more than a couple of other modifications, then I'm sure the F1 brain-trust can figure something out. Besides, wouldn't smaller engines make more sense, especially considering N/A engines have gone down from 3.5 litre displacement to 2.4 over the years? And consider that back when F1 WAS turbo, it allowed 1.5 litres. Why increase it to 1.6? Also, I'm sure you can't just butcher an existing engine, add turbos and expect it to work, but I'm pretty sure design-wise there can be more than a few common components between a 2.4 V8 and a 1.2 4 cylinder, considering both will have 300cc cylinder displacement. Besides, if Radical and Ariel can take two Suzuki bike engines and make a V8 out of it, what would make me think that the world of F1, supposedly the be-all and end-all of automotive technology, won't be able to perform the reverse? Or am I just expecting too much?

I think this is good news. It would've been even better news if they allowed both N/A and turboed engines though, as they did in the 80s. 2.4 V8 N/As or 1.2 boosted engines sounds about right I'd say. Why 1.6 was decided on I'm not entirely sure. 1.2 would've made the transition easier I think, since that would mean all the manufacturers had to do was lop off one side of the V and optimize it with the turbo. But ah well, at least we're seeing some sort of movement in the engine department.
'Tragic ex-hero' Schumacher should retire again - Hakkinen
November 19, 2010
@liquid_stereo I don't think that's entirely accurate. The Brawn 2009 car was essentially the car that was developed under the then 2008 Honda banner, it just inherited a Mercedes engine. The car would've been developed properly in 2008 for the 2009 season, which happens to be the season Brawn won the title. The 2010 MB car did not enjoy the same level of development as the 2009 Brawn. You can look at 2009's declining performance of the Brawn for proof that the team barely had enough resources to keep improving the 2009 car... They now have more resources at their disposal than they did in 2009, but even now they do not have the same level of resources as, say, Ferrari or McLaren or RB has.

We're talking about Michael Schumacher for goodness' sake. If he wants to race, let the man race. MB will eventually let him go if he doesn't cut the mustard, but what difference does it make if he races on and fails to win a single race -or finish on the podium for that matter- for another season? That will not take away from the fact that he's won more pole positions, races and championships than anyone else. It does speak volumes for his love of racing that he's still willing and eager to race on against the current crop of F1 "superstars". How is that a bad thing exactly? EDIT: I completely agree with you btw, Loki.
Fiat says Alfa Romeo not for sale amid VW interest
October 22, 2010
Alfa Romeo always saddens the crap out of me. Here's a brand who should've been the benchmark among brands such as BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus and all the rest. Instead of that, we're stuck with Fiats rebodied in Alfa drag. Ideally, Alfa needs to be bought over by some ultra-rich billionaire, become fully independent again, change their range back to primarily RWD, reenter premier motorsport and return to building proper Alfa Romeos. ...but that will never happen.
Schumacher says car 'not always same' as Rosberg's
October 12, 2010
I say let Schumacher race as long as he wants to. He's one of the legends, and even if he ends up last in every single race for the rest of this year, or next year for that matter, that's fine. I'm sure he'll (re)retire when it's become clear to him that he doesn't stand a chance anymore, and clearly he doesn't feel that way yet. Let the guy race, he's earned it.
Ecclestone now admits Korea situation 'not good'
September 26, 2010
Probably one of the biggest reasons why I, as a fan, will never fork out for an F1 ticket as long as the show is being run by Ecclestone. What can you hope for when the man in charge merely hopes a race "will happen"? Indy #2 seems to be on the cards.
Female Stig with Pink overalls - Clarkson will love that one
September 7, 2010
I say they must get Rubens Barrichello. He's obviously got enough money, he's beaten the current Stig (who some say is/ was Ben Collins) and he probably doesn't have that many more days left in F1. To boot, he's a nice guy and probably already has an autobiography out, so little chance of him spilling the beans.
Schumacher admits age a factor in comeback struggle
September 7, 2010
I think this is more a case of him just saying what most of his detractors want to hear in an effort to take the wind out of some of their sails. I'm not buying any of it. I say let's wait to see what happens from 2011 onwards.
