First Official Images of Production Chevy Volt Leak Out

@ BRB Every car driven in America must be "federalized". Those would be standards. EX 1/ Vehicles MUST generate a certain amount of power. Mopeds are not allowed on freeways. Small electric vehicles asre not allowed on roadways (golfcarts). 2/ vehicles must meet crash STANDARDS. 3/ vehicles must meet performance STANDARDS. Braking, cornering (unsafe at any speed), fuel usage(cant use just anything out in public) electric?good, now lets make sure your battery wont cause any nasty problems if its in an accident. Number of lights? how bright? daytime lights? bumber? bumper performance solid object?bumber performance pedestrian? fire resistance engine bay? fire resistance occupant cell? DUDE ---- THERE ARE SO MANY STANDARDS IT BOGGLES

So lets see: 1/ Usually the new generation of an older model is enough for design gremlins. 2/ Usually a completely NEW platform/model is very difficult to manage. Recalls and design flaws are higher in new platform models than restyled previous gen. 3/ So GM decides to bet the farm on a technology that they are unfamiliar with. Engineers are new to it, sales teams are new to it, manufacturing teams are new to it, assembly facilities are new to it, parts suppliers are new to it, SERVICE/MAINTENANCE personnel are new to it WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG???????? (Oh yeah, did you notice that Bob Lutz is already starting to whine that newcar standards are to tough and the government should soften regulations) Pretty sure I will wait a couple of model years for the bugs to get worked out before I buy one. Bet you the government buys a few to bail out GM

It is sad that GM feels the need to bet the farm on this car. Maybe if they just stuck to building decent cars as they have been doing lately. GM is going to bet the farm on this car, they are going to spend MORE $$$$ marketing their cars (Transformers) than they will engineering their cars. Then they ask the government to lower the standards of car build so they can remain competitive. Which tells me ALREADY that the Volt sucks (why else would they ask the gov't to lower standards)
Mercedes GL-Class Facelift Spied Almost Undisguised

So in response to Voss, yes, they will use them for proper offroading cause that is what happens after the car slides off the side off the road. And with this car you might just make it back on the road again, which is really the idea.

This car is a glorified minivan yes, I will concede you that, HOWEVER, the market is the rural cottage owning, camping in tents at drive in/hike to site campgrounds. For that upper-middle class demographic this vehicle is absolute brilliance. The road to the cottage are severely weather rutte, they see hazardous winter conditionsd dirt tracks. The road to the ski hill is snowy and slippery and these features do serve benefit. Do these vehicle "offroad"? Probably not. But they see deep snow, they see treacherous winter conditions, they negotiate lousy offgrid dirt roads. Minivan? Oh yeah. But a Mercedes minivan that dad can feel macho in, mom can use for just about everything, kids, kids, more kids, soccer balls, ski equipment, cottage supplies, family trip to state forest campground, groceries, fuel mileage, safety,Mercedes They are gonna sell gazillions of them.

Serious critique of this machine 1. Before the quadrunners/atv ther was the 3 wheel atv. It ended up OUTLAWED because of all the rollovers. 2. That company in Quebec who fabricate the 3 wheeled motorbike (Raptor?) -- 2 wheels in front one wheel in back. 3. snowmobiles have 2 skis in front monotread in back PERCHANCE A LOTUS ENGINEER READS THIS 2 skis upfront one in the back = more stability, =oversteer not rollover. (If you think oversteer for a snow/ice machine is bad than watch children on toboggans. Remember the british team that set the land speed record? Broke the speed of sound!!!! they used 2 WHEELS UP FRONT/ 1 WHEEL STEERING IN BACK. Nice idea but some serious safety issues, performance issues with this layout.

@ loyo 1. these men are former 2 man luge competitors. 2. nights in antarctica are 6 months long. 3. antarctica is cold and lonely 4 i seem to recall reading a science blog that pointed out a high degree of homosexuality among the penguins. 5. Three men in one comfort shaped reclined seat. The only problem will be arguments about who's ontop and who's underneath.
Audi Variable Valvelift System in Detail
August 8, 2008
seems to me 4rings has it right. VARIABLE LIFT. Let me say it again. VARIABLE LIFT. If you are using cams and CAM LOBES how does one vary the lift? The lobe draws a circle. If you want a bigger circle FOR MORE LIFT, then you need a bigger lobe. AUDI HAS DONE THAT. SEE THE PICTURE??????? 2 TWO DEUX ZWEI 2 TWO 2 TWO LLLOOOBBBEEESSS. learn your kindergarten geometry before commenting. p.s. Just because the marketing team at Honda calls it variable lift does not make it so. AGAIN you need a bigger lobe means you need two lobes
Porsche Panamera: Base Price of USD127,000

I dont believe that there can be a significant change to the backend. See the roofline? It sort of has to flow into the tail. For some crazy reason Porsche thinks that their vehicles must have the iconoclast Porsche look. You know. The headlights and the tailend appearing as much like a 911 as possible. Yes many people WILL by this car because its a Porsche and because they are image hounds. But when those people sit at a table at their fav eatery and here ALL the other patrons squawk about the ugliness and what a loser the fool who bought it must be, those same owners will sell the car within 1 year. Porsche blew it with this one.
