Webber sees 'many years' ahead on F1 grid
February 9, 2012
By tryouts, I guess I mean both. I like your point about Kobayashi, frankly I think he's one of the most underrated and overlooked drivers on the grid. I would love to see what he would do behind the wheel of the RBR. So Perez is looking good for Ferrari, as you said because of his experience. But you raise an even more interesting point about Bianchi and Force India. You're right, he's still young and lacks F1 experience. But if FI is known to develop drivers, then maybe Bianchi's hopes for Ferrari are all but dead, and if we free ourselves to speculation, maybe Ferrari sent him there temporarily to develop his skills on an F1 car. The reason why I'm so for Bianchi joining Ferrari is due to my experience at the Istanbul 2011 Grand Prix (I don't mean to show off), where I was fortunate enough to receive the VIP and Pit Lane pass (the green one) with Scuderia Ferrari. (Aside: no matter how much this pass costed, it was well worth it as it was probably the best three days of my life. The feeling of hearing a F1 car fire up while you're staring down its exhaust pipe is otherworldly. My dad got hooked up with two for me and him because his company deals a lot with FIAT.) Anyway, back to the point: one of the team members told me that Bianchi is the future for Ferrari, either to replace Massa or once Alonso exits his prime. He suggested that Bianchi's raw skillset as a driver has, for lack of a better way of describing it, the potential to be too good for GP2. However, he did justify his claim with the caveat that Bianchi is still young and needs a lot more experience, especially behind the wheel of a F1 car, before becoming a starting driver for Scuderia. He also hinted at the fact that Bianchi may hold a tenure with another team in order to develop his skills. I tried to probe more but he couldn't comment further. Then again, this was last season and, considering the politics of the sport, who knows what will happen to him in three or four years time. On another note, I asked him about Michael Schummacher and he said the following (paraphrase): "It was not Michael who won those races. During the '00-'04 seasons, we had an unbeatable car, like the one that RBR currently runs during that season." Talk about bitter.

"They won't replace him in 2013. There is no other driver available that is better than him." Are you talking about Webber, here, or Massa? And yeah, Perez does have a better shot in the immediate future, but I just don't think he's as good a driver as Bianchi under the same conditions, at least in the long run. I would love to see the two of them duke it out in GP2. How do driver tryouts work for these teams anyhow? Or is it all politics that decides?

Down troll, down.

Ferrari should take Webber if he doesn't get the extension, and replace Massa. With Alonso, Webber, and Bianchi as a prospect coming from GP2, they will fare much better point wise, and pose a real threat to Red Bull next season.
Mercedes SLC likely to be green-lighted - report

Ok, good point. But in Porsche's case, the Turbo is a GT, and the GT3 RS is a track car, so two very different animals. In this case, however, the SLC and the SL, and the SLS for that matter, are all 2 seat front engined coupe-roadsters powered by a 500+bhp V8 with RWD and a luxury interior. In Porsche's case, there actually is a functional difference. In Benz's case, there isn't. So the buyer bases are not far off from each other.

Looks fairly accurate. So it's just an XF estate. Isn't a shooting break a 2-door wagon, not a four door?

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, every day would be Christmas. Clearly whoever bought this has a lot more invested in the markets than you could possibly imagine, that's why he can afford such a car. I'm sure he doesn't need investing advice from you.

Overall a very pretty car, and a well-executed collectors' item. Although the rear end has a little too much Ferrari. No matter, it's a good one, and should be enough to tide us over until the Vantage is updated. Speaking of which, when is the DB9/S getting its much needed overhaul? And, more importantly, when is the Virage S coming? It's long overdue at this point.

So where does this fit: SL, SLK, SLC, SLS? I'm confused. Another niche for the exact same car? At a certain point that's just a waste of marketing resources. It's a standard SL63 with different body panels. They should just replace this alleged SLC with the new and atrocious SL they unveiled not too long ago, and call this the SL. Or, they can also just offer the SLS with a smaller engine, for those who want the looks without wanting to shell out for horsepower that realistically only 10% of owners will actually use often enough to justify the expense. It would also save them a ton on development costs, and they would be giving a tried and true (market-wise) formula to a broader segment. Audi already does this with the R8, and Porsche with the 911. Although there is a silver lining here: contrary to popular belief, people actually do want roadsters, sportsters, etc... This shows that this kind of car will continue to exist for a long time, and that is a reassuring thought in today's world of one charismatic yet incompetent politician who shall not be named who does not know how to keep his trap shut.
Super Bowl XLVI MVP presented with 2012 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible Centennial Edition
February 7, 2012
Eli does not deserve MVP. He played terribly. Tom Brady, on the other hand, played a great game, and got no help from his team. He opened 16-16, a Superbowl record, and almost all of the remaining incompletions can be directly attributed to dropped passes. The MVP of the Superbowl was the Giants defense, for making plays that caused the Patriots offense to drop the ball, no pun intended. Eli sucks, and he looks like a retarded fetus with the Bosley hair restoration treatment. Cool car, although it should have been a Camaro ZL1.
