I'm just curious: could somebody calculate the amount of energy used in the world by every possible car / truck / bike, u name it, that uses fuel in about... let's say, a month? and then estimate the extra energy all these vehicles, transformed in evs, would "suck" from the world-wide electrical companies? what I'm trying to say here is the simple fact that the "electric juice" won't be as cheap as it is today, cause there'll be an enourmous quantity of energy needed and that energy can't be obtained without a huge pollution impact. keep in mind that over 60 percent of the energy produced in the world today is made by burning coal (and try not to think of the most modern, cleanest coal burning processes like pre-combustion and so on, but the dirtiest possible, like it happens in china and in the third world countries). I still believe the sollution is, at least for today, the internal combustion engine - of course, the most efficient and cleanest versions... and a set of regulations that will discourage the irrational waste of fuel (in other words, you won't be able to burn a tank just to park your car in your front alley).

Opel aims to become an EV leader
October 28, 2011
so in about 10-15 years from now on there'll be a certain number of EVs around here, mostly of them being used in the European major cities and a few in States. but what about the rest of the planet, say China, India to name only 2 of the biggest car markets in the world? of course, every trip begins with the first step, but I doubt the EVs are the answer.
