So yeah..we will just have to disagree on this one. On the dsg topic i insist that the software sucks. The first one especialy.The change interval is actually 60 000km, i got it twisted with the porsche dkg which had 30 000, and that is very little. Even thogh i absolutely dont trust it, normal nowadays is actually a sealed for life design, or first change only design.Or at least it never explicitly says when to change. I would consider a 100 000 or 160 000km a reasonable interval for these boxes. Its not so much a problem of chang it, its more the fact how much the stealerships charge for a stupid oil change, but thats a different topic. I dont see why you shouldnt buy a bmw with x drive for winter. In tests i read, x drive actually performed better in snow than quattro. And the whole format cares too much about bringing senstional conclusions rather than doing some serious proper car testing. If they say itstrue it is true? Yes they are actually competitors but i meant that they are not a good example of comparing 4wd vs 2wd coz they have a comletely different engine layout and therefore it is better to demonstrate the difference on sedans which are the same in everything else. In that case you will truly see that quattro is indeed not as fun a bmw. Quattro is set up as a nanny not as a seriosu driving aid. S4 and rs4 were compared favorably to m3? Is this a mild way of saying the rs4 could never beat the m3 of its time? Concerning the new roco r20 i was also a bit sceptical and i was aboslutely angry and sad to find out that the vr6 engine is gona be replaced by some lousy 2liter, but so far tests seem to show this car is damn good. And as much as i love the vr6, it was too heavy for a car like this. On the other vw could have developed a lighter version instead of taking the easy way with turbocharging that 2 liter. Just to come back to your original comment, Audi isnt such a great pioneer after all is it now?

It's the absolute tabloid of car journalism. And yes porsche uses that engine coz they are related to vw, so its obvious they woudnt not use an engine from the competition. I wouldnt mention racing here, that engine has nothing to do with serial production at all and it was mainly a marketing move to promote their diesels. And i especialy wouldnt mention being beaten by peugeot. The reason i mentioned subaru was because you claimed something in the sense that audi 4wd mainstream, which is true, but so did subaru and before audi on top of that. I dont think you can really say that bmw x drive is made as a counterpart to quattro. For bmw, xdrive is more of a rare option for people who live in places with extreme winter and so on but any real bmw is still rear wd and they swear by this and thats what they compete with against quattro.If you look at how the 2 systems are set up and made, you will see they have completely different use in mind. Yes i did drive a bmw on snow and many other rear wheel drive cars with no troubles. Even in the montains it was alwasy fine as the car was loaded with ski equpment and luggage. So yes, i still have trouble agreeing. I dont really see s4 vs 335i populrity by car and driver has to do with this argument. If they like s4 good for them. Now comparing r8 to a 911 is not a good example coz they are completely different in the engine layout, but if you take 2 normal saloons then the difference will be way more noticable. Ok now.....the rs engines are sooooooooooo dull compared to amg. If you drive them you will know this.I think this should be anonunced as an official fact in encyclopedias . RS engines have enuf power but they absolutely lack any character. The dgs software is absolute shit dude. The previoosu was even worse and you had to change the oil every 30 thosuand km which is ridiculous. Audi A3= snob golf all the way. Scirocco and corrado 4 life. Didnt drive a the s3 nor the 130i. The scirocco r20 is the one id go for.

BMW never went mainstream with awd coz it is their philosophy tu use rwd, but they had xDrive ever since i can remember. I see more and more people buying 4wd models now, because they have been brainwashed into thinking that it is much safer that way. Sorry but i dont buy that. If you drive normaly you wont even know the difference and if you wanna go crazy rwd is definately more fun. The only exception is a rally car which has a hardcore 4wd system, but dont for a second think that a modern quattro has anything to do with that. The only think audi has pioneered with this is that people buy an option which costs a few thousand extra, ads weight and increases consumption, and you wont even know you have it. As for diesel injection: every diesel needs injection. If you are talking about modern high pressure direct injection, i dont see where audi made such big advancemets in that. If I were an Audi fan i would rather not mention the word diesel when talking about bmw, because bmw diesels are consistently beating audi diesels in any car test. Mentioningf the rs4 engine? sorry but that has got to be the most boring sports v8 i have ever seen. And it sounds like v6 with a sore neck. Go try an AMG and you will see what a weak effort that audi engine is. A3: A decent car and surely a great business idea which bmw copied with the 1er, but the 1er is unique with the rwd, whereas you can easily just buy an well speced golf instead of an a3. Yes VAG did make the dsg mainstream but let me tell you the first one was crap. And the one bmw offers now is much better.

Mercedes AMG New B-Class Based Sedan Further Details I remember reading some time ago in autobild that the new b class platform should give birth to many interesting new models. It is supposed to be ready for a 4 wheel drive as well as a hybrid system. Firstly there should be the regular b class, then slightly SUVed up version of it, probably something like a golf plus cross but actually with awd. But here it gets intersting. No A class, but instead a hatch to compete with the audi a3. And then a very compact 4 door saloon thats supposed to be really attractive and coupe like, something like a mini cls. They supposedly wanna atract young people with stylish yet relatively affordable models. This seems to indicate that this new AMG thing might be true, and i read that quite a long time ago. I am however not sure about the EVO. If anything make it something like a c class black series type of thing. I dont think doing something on this platform would do the evo much honor and it makes no historical sense because the evo is based on the first c class type of car. It would make more sense to do something like a turbo 4 cylinder amg to go against the golf GTIs and such rather this nonsense. I really hope that mercedes makes the hatch and that they are not cheap like many times before and that they get it right. If the four door looks a bit like that concept then job well done

Hope they reduced the oil consumption thou. I still think the bmw diesels are a bit better but if i am currently in love with a diesnel than it would be the mercedes 250cdi. I would take that in a c class. I do acknowledge the 3er bmw as bloody good car but i think the tune is actually too hard for an everyday car and the looks...well it much beter after the facelift but that is the worst 3er ever. Love the coupe though. I agree with you that in everday trafic there is not much difference to a rwd, but you always have the benefit of better steering and on the limit its soo much more controlable. I do admit that understeer scares the shit out of me. Quatro does have its benefits, but again, i dont think you really need it, and if you insist 4 matic is actually much better. Before audi had the sports diff the quattro would sometimes push you out of corners. Anyway good point with the ultima

Audi Takes Another Jab at BMW with Latest TV Commercial @newgit: You and your neverending story of dimples..ok i admit that it is not the best material but many people actually like it a lot. Either way the interior of the c class feels very soldid and i is a nice place to be for me, in the end i prefer it over audi and bmw. Especially the ergonomics are are much better in my opinion. Anyway in the more expensive models like the ml, you can get the dash completely covered in pleader as an option. The w211 had a different material, and the w211 interir was beatiful in my opinin, much better than the competition. The early w211 were shit, still struck by the benzo cost cutting of back then, but the later models were really good quality, as far as i know gearboxes were not a problem even on the first ones. I used to work in a mercedes dealership. Yes the desks are segregated but it had nothing to do with being snobish, it due to the fact that each seller is trained for their specific type of cars and it is for the customers benefit, and as far as i know the level of dealership friendliness for mercedes is really good in germany. If i rememeber they even recently got some excelent grades in a secret autibild test where they put a car with some faults into service to see how well it gets repaired ,and mercedes did better than anyone else. This more than just fake friendliness to lure a customer that every dealer does anyway. So again, mb delaerships are currently actually very good. My comment about audi driver was a stupid generalisation..i know, and i just couldnt help it, but as you like to say, it was actually based on experinece too. And i really do not think that a person who knows what they are doing would buy a fwd luxury sedan. The reason why i replied to your coment was not because i was insecure anything like that, but it was just so funny i had to reply. As for the last part of your question..as i worked in a mb dealership i got tod rive almost every benz, from bmw i drove many of the 3 series, and as well as the 5 series. Didnt try the 7er but i sat in it many times. How are they better or more special than audi? well i asked this about audi like 3posts before and i still didnt get an answer so after you please. Plus i would still like to know which tdi feels like a petro engine to you.

I drove the 170 2 liter and i have been driven in the 3 liter and to me none of them feel like a petrol engine at all. Again this is very subjective but claiming that a tdi feels like petrol is a bit absurd if you excuse me. The survey...i was most surprised to see the clk so high up..otherwise nothing groundbreaking..i am sure a lot of people will be happy with their a6 but i still dont think it is the best car out of the 3. Anyway i never actully bashed audi, i merely stated that i would choose a mercedes or a bmw of an audi of the same segement and that was actually in response to your post. In fact i think audis are decent cars. You are however right..i dont like them. To me, an audi customer is the one who finds it more important to have stupid led lights than to have a truly good car. A person who wants a good luxury car but who doesnt really understand cars and falls for audis marketing bullshit. On one side of the spectrum is the family dad who wants to play it safe with a quatro, on the other end is the guy who thinks he is the king of the city with a white s5. I dont want to be a part of that crowd. I dont think a car conoseur would ever choose an audi. Let me explain to you why. It just like McNamara said. Just coz you had some experience with bmw or mercedes, it doesnt really mean anything. I mean i could equlay tell a story that i drove an a4 and it realy boring and then i drove a 3 series and it was really fun and then i drove an s class and it was heavnly ride. Do you get what i mean? Or how can you say that mercedes dealerships are bad? How many have you been to please? I could go on. Sure we are talking about subjective experinces here but you should still try to be objective at least a little bit. You see thing the way you want to see them and not the way they are. I mean saying that the ride in an e class was nothing to write home about and then raving on about how great it was to drive a tdi a4 is a bit funny dont you think?
