Production Rally Fighter set to debut at SEMA [video]

Let me guess, you've never driven fast offroad? I have. A manual transmission would be pure idiocy; you want both hands on the wheel in case you hit a rock or a rut that could wrench the wheel. A manual transmission is great on the road, but not at high speed offroad.

Are you honestly proposing that Baja trophy trucks are in any way less technologically advanced, fast, or effective than WRC cars? No, they couldn't run a WRC rally very effectively, but a WRC car would be a pile of scrap before mile 50 of the Baja 1000. Different tools, different jobs - and if you think that a Trophy Truck or most other Baja classes are technologically inferior to a WRC car, you're simply an ignorant Euro fanboy, nothing more. And what's this about "50s transmission"? You don't need 6 speeds offroad. What you do need is simplicity, durability, and high strength. Same with the 6.2 V8 - which is a brand-new and very advanced Ford powerplant. Oh, and find me a Bowler Nemesis that sells for $50k or thereabouts. I'll be waiting for quite a long time, but take as much as you need....

Several classes of Baja/SCORE trucks are RWD, as are many Dakar rally-raid trucks. In particular, prerunners are always RWD, as are the Baja Bugs and Trophy Trucks. 4WD is desirable for S2000 or WRC rallies, but this is a completely different concept for completely different types of rallying.

Comparable and competitive? I've witnessed CTS-Vs handing M3s, RS4s, and AMG MBs their asses on the track, repeatedly. Oh, and they do it for thousands of dollars less. Cadillac doesn't have much to apologize for...unless you think its American origins are something to be ashamed of, which I don't.

The BLS is already discontinued, because it sold 8000 copies in three years. The ATS replaces it completely.

You're both completely out to lunch. The BLS is based on an outgoing GM platform - Epsilon is being discontinued and replaced with the vastly superior Epsilon II. It's also poorly styled, FWD only, and a cheap rebadge of the Saab 9-3. Oh, and let's not forget that it's a complete and utter sales failure, with fewer than 8000 sold total. GM is ALREADY developing Alpha to underpin the new Holden Commodore family, the new Camaro, and the next CTS. Alpha is a newer platform that will offer RWD and vastly better dynamics while offering space for a V8. They'll be able to build a coupe, sedan, crossover, and convertible on that platform. Oh, and it'll be a new, excellent platform, not a variant of a 12 year old Opel. And guess what? Cadillac can do all that and continue to build cars that match BMWs on the track for tens of thousands of dollars less, with interior quality that matches up to BMW too. They already do that. They don't need to sell a crappy 9-3 rebadge to do it. Seriously, do you even think about what you post?
