Instead of a diesel in a performance chassis, AMG prefers a big V8 in a heavy unwieldy chassis!
BMW has proven that performance and diesel are not incompatible.

I have a 2007 nE91, with manual trans, sport pkg, the wife's car.
Everyone is shocked when they look at the interior and see a stick shift, but we love it and think the e91 is a great car. It's the second one we have owned and am glad to see them continue to bring them to USA!

Makes perfect sense to me economically.
What is ironic however is that German business people will wax philosophically about their social welfare system and how they strongly support it, but once they leave Germany they resort to naked capitalism, "not that there is anything wrong with that", credit to Seinfield.
Wherever they build the car I'm confident that it will be of consistent quality, particularly when you bear in mind that ALL AUDI ENGINES are made in Hungary, not Germany, they have a history of foreign manufacturing.
