Manual transmissions gone from future supercars?
July 2, 2011
The argument for enthusiasts and purists always wanting an H pattern manual is strange to me. I grew up loving manual cars, and always viewed them as "real driver's machines." I used to love tossing my keys to one of my girlfriends only to hear "honey you know I can't drive stick." How manly did that make you feel! But at some point its holding on to tradition just for tradition's sake. If you want the manual because you want quick, and precise control of the engine's output; because you want to dictate the torque and manage the revs - then why do you care what device is used to get there? If "flappy paddle" shifters can operate faster, more accurately, and with less weight and problematic parts, then what?s not to love? Sure, your girlfriends will all be able to drive these cars, but they still won't drive them the way you do- so relax its ok embrace technology. And if its not, then why haven't you retro-fitted drum brakes, 8-track players, carburetors to your "drivers machines" - maybe its time for 150 bHP to be "dominant" again if we all love the past so much! My 1969 will always have an H-pattern shifter. That how they made it- and I like that. But I sure don?t want my 2069 to have the same if I?m luck enough to live that long. Just my $.02

Formula 1 coverage to end
January 10, 2011
I read your F1 coverage 5 days a week. This is usually my first stop for F1 news (I also look here for general automotive news- but will do so much less w/o the F1 draw). Its sad to see you abandon your coverage. I guess all of us silent fans should have been more vocal when we had the chance.
Modified Volkswagen Beetle runs on human excrement
August 7, 2010
I modified my old 300TD Turbo to run on veggie oil. When I fill it with the used oil from McDonalds, it smells exactly like french fries in the car for a few days. So when this engine runs... I'll pass.
Ferrari can 'relax' ahead of World Council - Briatore
July 27, 2010
Briatore then commented, "its not like they risked a man's life by having him hit a wall at speed to let his partner pass. And I'm about to get back into F1...so whats the problem with what Ferrari did? I don't think they should be worried -just relax guys."
FIA, teams, plan meetings to address controversies
June 30, 2010
IMO- the key to fixing this is in the reaction to questionable rules or the reaction to rule breaking, and not simply clearing up rules after they have these situations. teams will always attmept to push the bounds of the rules, and grey areas will always arrise. clarify this today, find contention of a new rule tomorrow. all sports have rules, but they also have officials and ref's to see that they are understood and followed. we need the FIA to work on that process more than the disecting of specific instances.
