See. If it wasn't for wcf I would have no idea about this. Keep f1 coverage.
Porsche Boxster S Black Edition announced

Why do you all dislike special editions? dont you get exclusivity? yeah its pretty much the same Porsche but slighlty tweaked.
better than rolling out every car out of production with the same options.

I really hope that is just rumor and they keep this as a toyota. If it comes as a scion it will definetely be diluted.
Toyota needs to bring back their sports legacy within their name.
I miss the good ol sportscars Toyota used to make.
AE86, Supra, celica-supra, and the MR2.
Formula 1 coverage to end
January 10, 2011
I ve never followed F1 too closely, always preferred Lemans, but WCF got my attention towards F1 more and more. I urge you strongly reconsider, I like this site as my one stop for all car news.
F1 has always been very controversial and it gets attention and hits whichever way you look at it. It also gets the users involved which is why i like this site. unfortunately not all user contribute appropriately but the ones that do make it worth it.
Dont let a few bad apples deter from providinginfo on one the biggest motorsports in this Auto-anything related site
I hope the people in charge change their mind on this one as you are obviously open to suggestions.
ok,

F1 teams close to agreeing new 2013 engine formula - 4 cylinder twin-turbo
April 28, 2010
Benz man hit it right on. The race enviroment is a way to test out new ideas when put to the max/worst case design by failure scenario. they are taking new technology which is not easily feasible or cost effective for a production car but it will become more and more cost effective as design and development continues. this is a big point in motorsports. and alot of this technology does translate into production cars you have to be blind not see this. of course the higher end sports cars see it first but they eventually trickle down into lower cost sports cars and then into everyday point A to B cars. I dont know about you but a titanium ceramic ultra lightweight turbo boosting 1 million psi sounds pretty impressive to me.
the reason why downsizing and turbochargers are in is because of one thing: remember that old and i do mean old saying that says theres no replacement for displacement. well guess what; we found a replacement, and that is Efficiency. when these small engines are producing the numbers of bigger engines-this is due to progress. progress which has then been implimented in the bigger engines you lust so much after. Iam a sucker for the V10 in the supercars aswell but iam not oblivious to the fact that a 4 cyl turbo cna outperform some of the big engine guys, i know i have. iam as big a gear head as the next guy but you cant argue with this logic.
when they are trrying to produce all this performance out of a small engine it makes technological advances worth that much more, its easy to get power out of a big engine but the hp/liter is what is what counts in the long run as far as progress goes.
Now theres another point that has yet to be mentioned:
by going to smaller engines that also means lower weight, which instantly translates to better handling, braking and weight balance.
things might start to get interesting again.

2011 VW Jetta R Sport Version Being Considered for U.S. - report
February 2, 2010
where should i start, ok ill follow your lead.
As for weight distribution the GTR actually offers a better split at 48-52 and 50-50 under full throttle(yes i googled this one) and the R8 has most of its weight in the rear at 44-56. fwiw the GTR is also mid engine, only it sits inback of the front axle instead of the front of the rear axle. The R8 does have a lower CG which does help, i agree, i also agree that power is not everything and lower weight is better but power to weight means more than lower weight, i prefer the colin chapman theory of power to weight where the weight is lowerd as opposed to rasing the HP but GTR does come with a better power to weight ratio. on the straight it the GTR is much faster that the r8 so any shortcomings on the turns are easily made up on the straights, not saying its slow in turns but i remember reading an article where they mentioned of the cars tested the R8 was the only car that avaraged a faster speed in the turns than the GTR of the cars tested. but the GTR still got the fastest times.
Race cars are not comparable to street cars, i agree completely aswell. my point on that is that quattro is a proven system whether on street apllication or race cars.
My haldex equipped car has 2 yaw sensors so Haldex does utilize this system. i really dont know much of the honda or BMW AWD but i can attest that the BMW AWD is absolutely horrible and felt incredibly sloppy and unresponsive, i felt this first hand at an autoX. Ive also driven STi and Evos AWD and they felt great, as does quattro, but they are very different in their nature. I havent tested a GTR yet but iam sure it is very capable system aswell.
i wasnt aware that audi/quattro was working with Magna steyr but i will read up on this as you sparked my curiosity. not sure if thats a good things or not since you stated that its similar to the BMW system.
Audi pretty much wrote the book on turboed small engines and .VW and audi shares most of the parts bin so i dont think VW its copying is copying anything from subaru.
Disclaimer
Opinion only: this is the way i see it from reading many articles and watching many reviews and coming to my own conclusion based on my knowledge of car design and racing.
The GTR was built mostly as a track oriented super coupe to basically beat out all other manufacturers, they where mostly interested in numbers and not so much on the feel of the car. i say this beacause they set out to make controversy by underating power figures and making big claims to boost their napoleon underdog complex. end result; they ended up with a great piece of engineering that gets great times and can hang with the big boys.
Audi R8 was trying to have their shot at making their version at a luxury exotic car which to also hang with the big boys. mission acomplished. what it lacked in power since they could not cut too much into sales from its sibling at lamborghini, Audi did an amazing feat in delivering great performance through precise handling and pure driver enjoyment.
at the end of the day i would rather drive an R8 whether it be at the track or the street.
2011 VW Jetta R Sport Version Being Considered for U.S. - report
January 30, 2010
I know your justbored but yeah, let me see if i can make you a little more open minded and widen your horizon.
The GTR does have both more HP and Torque which is what gets you out of a corner under throttle, and especially on AWD it is crucial as you can transfer the power down to the ground. and it is much faster in a straight line than the R8 so yeah i think having over 120 more ft lbs of torque helps makeit faster then the R8 i dont think its the AWD system.
I say quattro is an industry leader because it has been proven on many races and even banned due to it being an unfair advantage to the competition.
BTW Nissan changed their mechanical type AWD system used in earlier GTRs into a hydraulic multi-clutch design, umm like Haldex quattro. you mentioned that quattro is inferior, so then why would Nissan seek out an inferior design for their GTR? i never said one is better than the other, i am saying audi is still a leader at it and a very present competition.
Iam not bashing the GTR i think its a great car, aside from its looks, it has incredible power coming from 2 turbos, great suspension and frame with polyphony electronics controlling all this, which is what in my view makes the GTR fast around a track.
Now that thats been said must everyone turn every thread on WCF into a GTR thread.
could you widen my horizon and tell me what Audi copied from Subaru?
