BMW Zagato coupe introduced [videos]
May 26, 2012
A BMW with some design flair. Like. They should try to be more daring, like this, with their sporty models, if not the bread-and-butter three-box sedans.
Much rather have something like this than an old man's car like the 6ers, which are dull and unadventurous.

"powered by a 3.2-liter V6 engine?" Must be one of these very special V6s with zero degrees between banks.

What give you the impression that I'm not serious? It's a subjective matter, and I'm as entitled to my opinion as you are to yours.
At least I offer the reasoning for my critique, rather than just spewing the typical internet cliches.
And if you're implying that I'm a "fanboy," you obviously miss the fact that I offer both positive and negative critique of BMW's styling. As a long time owner, I at least have the perspective that many casual observers and snipers do not.
Comment sections are the cesspools of the internet. I don't know why I ever bother with wading into them.
Audi A6 ad is a take on 'Imported from Detroit' Superbowl commercial [video]
June 4, 2011
Mr. Mathers has repeatedly shown himself to be a very litigious fellow.
If it weren't for the guitar riff, this would just be another take on the Chrysler ad, but the music just about pushes it over the line.
As it stands, the Chrysler ad itself is somewhat overrated. Outside of the creatives and those in the industry, who rave about it, the impression it leaves for a lot of the general public is -- "Eminem drives a POS Chrysler?"
The Detroit theme might inspire a bit of jingoistic pride on the part of some, but to the vast majority, they care more about how the vehicle serves them than where it it built. Never mind that Chrysler is now majority owned and controlled by a foreign automaker.

I agree. I like it, and the fact that BMW didn't take the safe and conservative S/M/L approach.

As someone who finds the E81/82/87/88 to be merely acceptable, and uninspired, I like this new one.
Unlike the more conservative (and resulting dull) big sedans, the B- and C-segments is more competitive and faster moving, so it requires more bold design. A smaller version of the big sausages isn't going to work.
Judging only by the pictures, it does a better job of incorporating the required pedestrian-friendly noses that are the weakest point of the 5er and 7er, with their too-flat faces. With the aggressive headlights and contours, this is the most aggressive looking BMW face since they abandoned the shark noses.
The only iffy parts of the design to me are the contour of the hood, which may turn out to be ok in 3D, and the center stack of the dash, which hews too closely to Honda design. Still, overall, all recent BMW interiors are miles better than the dull, and conservative themes that were part of the Bangle era.
Subaru FT-86 STI to be sans-turbo - report
June 2, 2011
Does a "longer-than-average life cycle" mean that Subaru can put off fixing their botched styling every four years, instead of every other year like they usually do? LOL
In all seriousness, products in this segment are known for having low volumes (after the initial spike) and short shelf lives.
The model will live as long as Subaru and Toyota see a valid business case for it, which in this instance means that whatever marginal financial returns they get out of this will be offset by the fulfillment of some image enhancement and segment presence.
But the fact that this car is already late, will not meet its initial price target, and is rumored to have an underwhelming spec is likely to lead to unfulfilled expectations and disappointment.

VW still eying Alfa, promises Porsche engines for the Italian brand
March 16, 2011
The real Alfa died many years ago.
Yes, the brand still exists, but mainly as an additional marketing channel for some larger concern.
It belongs to that group of marques that couldn't make it on their own. Some still survive as parts of larger companies, robbed of identity, while others have naturally faded away.
The question being posed now for Alfa is--what's worse, being a badge slapped onto Fiats, or VWs? Neither one seems particularly appealing.
