Bugatti Veyron vs Lamborghini Aventador vs Lexus LFA vs McLaren MP4-12C [video]
May 16, 2012
Could not agree more: the Veyron is untouchable in a straight line, but throw in some real twists and turns, and you can see why light weight is actually the secret to real world speed. My money is on the McLaren with the Lexus a very close second. For a somewhat valid example, check out... http://www.fastestlaps.com/tracks/nordschleife.html
2013 Audi S6 clocks 3.7 seconds in 0-60mph

If this figure even has a chance to be true, then they must have done it under the following conditions.
1) Driver only - no luggage, no passengers.
2) This driver would have to be very trim and fit: figure less than 70kgs weight, even with helmet etc.
3) Fuel load - they would have just had maybe less than 2-3 litres of fuel onboard.
4) Perfect grip/slip track. There's an optimal surface which gives perfect grip...and they must have it.
5) Flawless launch technique - they must have tried it a few times.
6) Perfect weather.
Rimac Concept One priced at $980K

Those are amazing numbers: power and torque are huge and the performance suitably impressive (top speed is a bit marginal for that output but that's rather academic). The weight is incredibly light for that car...and the range...WOW! But can they deliver???
Lamborghini Estoque still under consideration
April 24, 2012
Let me give you guys a bit of a tip from what an analyst told me end of last year: the models that will be made in the future are the ones that will appeal the most in the PRC, Russia and the Middle East: i.e. ostentatious, big...and ideally with lots of ground clearance for marginal roads. Western tastes in cars will now have less of an effect in the past. And if you're going to blame anyone, blame Porsche. Every CFO of every luxury car company in the world has noted what the Cayenne has done for Porsche's P&L...

I think what happened is they used up the design budget completely just before they started work on the rear...
Justin Bieber in his irritating chrome Fisker Karma [video]
April 11, 2012
He only annoys the envious; Justin doesn't go around killing people; he doesn't sell drugs; he doesn't rely on wealthy parents to spoil him rotten (unlike Bernie Ecclestone's daughters); he doesn't take huge positions in the derivatives markets and then use sly, underhand tactics to destroy a company, the livelihoods of thousands and pocket $15 million in the process. He has a talent that many people are willing to pay to experience. And he has achieved that talent at a very young age: good luck to him. Just remember: workers design and build those cars, and the PR value of him is very high for Fisker.

Have to hand it to Hyundai: in terms of perceived build quality and styling, they have made amazing progress within the past 5 years. And this is no exception. Handling and ride, well, we'll soon see...
Ferrari FF on fire in China
February 21, 2012
Ferrari general quality of materials fit and finish is quite good and most Ferraris actually work out quite well for their owners, especially compared to the horrors people had to put up with up until the early 1990s. However, Ferraris are largely hand built in limited numbers, so they don't have the insanely massive R&D + testing that a mass market model like an MB E class or BMW 7 series would have. Combine that with extremely high stressed components, then the laws of probability eventually catch them out. Still, it doesn't stop the waiting list. For everyone person that can afford a Ferrari who sees a story like this and cancels their order...there are 20 people who will take their place and take their chances...
Hyundai moving past 'value' brand perceptions - CEO

The Koreans have every reason to be proud of what they have achieved. To my mind, I have gone from thinking of Korean cars as "cheap" to "incredible value". Now...how long will it take the Chinese...?
Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Edition Merveilleux unveiled [video]
December 15, 2011
I have to wonder: if 268 mph is the new record, then the next target should be a reliable, consistent 300 mph in a road car...but what would that involve in a car that still has to be reasonably practical?
