With car sales slumping in the shadow of a global credit crunch, Aston Martin have announced the news that the world's most expensive car in the world, their forthcoming new One-77, has its order book packed with customers. Limited to a run of just 77 examples and partially uncovered only last week in Paris, Aston have been able to secure in excess of 100 orders - the first deliveries for the 1.2 million pound 200 mph supercar expected to begin in autumn to those who've already put forward their cool £200,000 deposit.

Details are scarce, but the One-77 is expected to have a carbon fibre chassis, aluminium body panels and boast a 7.3-litre V12 block. The One-77 designation is however no reference to any of the car's workings, chief designer Reichmann explaining: "The number 75 just seemed way too obvious and normal; the number 77 was just two lucky sevens."

The announcement follows warnings over slowing European car sales in September, usually the hottest month for new registrations. Sales dropped most in Britain, down a fifth, while Western European sales saw a 9.3 percent decrease over September last year. With the release of the One-77, the £800,000 Veyron, presently the world's priciest new car, slips to second place.

i dont see how this aston is worth $2 million. I mean i love astons, but they need to slow down on the pricing, no wonder they are only doing 100. On the other hand those new owners are smart

by jalmonte91 | October 15, 2008 9:08 PM
why oh why do you think they are smart?? They sre buying a car that looks exactly the same as a normal DB9, has a slightly bigger engine and output. Most wont even see the difference between it and a DB9, I dont call it exclusive just cause it has a different name than the normal model. I cant see how billionairs are so blind for exclusivity that they are willing to pay 10x the price of slightly different DB9.

It's worth what people will pay for it. Image wise, Aston is on the ascent. They only need to find 77 people globally to pay £1.2M for a niche car. There are thousands of billionaires globally, a significant proportion of which have no taste.

The reason i said they were smart was because you are right, all they did was slap a new price tag on a db9. And that is smart from a owner's point of view

already? but even so, you cant test drive it, its first come first served... i wish i had one.

One-77 may not worth this much money, but its prestige

As beautiful as this car is, I doubt its worth anywhere near the price required for access. However, this is a great way for AM to raise capital for future products. At $2M a pop, that means $154M will be raised for a car that, more than likely, has cost a third of that to engineer and build. Aston must have something creative up its sleeve that will require a large capital investment. Makes me excited to think about it.

I think supercar makers should stop with this crap. If you are going to make such an expensive car then it has to be worth it. Taking a 150k car, changing the styling then slapping a million pound price tag on it is just ridiculous. And as much as I like the Lamo Reventon, it has the same problem, its basically an LP640 with a modified styling. This is why these cars are not worth the price but a Veryon is worth every penny.

A lot of people don't care about the design or power they care about the price :P so if it very expensive they should get it :P

I can't wait to drive this in Forza! That's as far as I'd go. Astons' performance haven't been worth their inflated price before, why should this be any better? They might be some of the nicest looking cars around, but I would never pay for looks over performance.

Its damn great!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just look at it!

77 One-77s adds up to Aston Martin getting £91 million, which is a lot of money. So hopefully Aston will be making a lot more beautiful cars in the future. Anyway, nice work with the One-77 design anyway Aston. Finally, for all you commenters out there, did you know that this car was designed by a guy from Sheffield, UK.

Shouldn't the Veyron be the third? The Reventon was 1 Million Euros?
