New McLaren P11 Supercar Photos Leak

With industry divorces and proposed marriages all over the show, it’s not surprising the move by McLaren and Mercedes-Benz to go it alone in each of their future projects. As we have been reporting for many many months now, Benz is extremely deep into its SLC super car development, and our several spy photos confirm this. McLaren is obviously not sleeping either, we’ve spoken at length about a car codenamed P11 from the Woking crew. Now for the first time, CAR in the UK say they have as close to production images as we have seen in these leaked images.

McLaren is known as a weight saver of note, so we are looking at a compact V8 motor to partner some lightweight chassis and bodywork materials. Mercedes-Benz, which still owns part of McLaren, would be the most obvious choice for engine partner and their 6.2-litre V8 is a distinct possibility, natural or force-fed. Problem there is weight and size, but targeted rivals Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo would have also moved their game up by release date in 2010. Resulting horses will be along the 500 bhp lines, and if it weighs the 1200kg earmarked, it should make for a sub 4-second mechanical arrow.

This engine choice would also be quite a shift from the original McLaren F1 super car which packed a formidable BMW powerplant. There have been eyewitnesses who’ve seen the mule testing at Surrey’s Dunsfold circuit, and they reveal a swift runner with quick gear changes, suspected to be an F1-style sequential affair. The name McLaren is synonymous with motor racing, so we look forward to its future Nurburgring times.

Likely prices will fall between £150,000 and £200,000.

seems to me that Mclaren can't make proper supercars anymore. I thought they scraped the old concept to start a new one. All they did is make a more hideous one.

Hmmm...doesnt look special, in fact, it looks like a slower inbred of a koenigsegg, gallardo and f430...sad...

Well first off can see a lamborghini front end but other than that, the style aint so bad, quite diffrent than from the previous Maclaren. Though compared to other Superars on the market this is a big let down.

It's amazing that news about supercars is becoming so boring. There are so many that are so much alike, and very few really distinguish themselves. It kind of reminds me of the early 80's when 20 plus models of hatchbacks looked mostly like a rabbit/golf. If I could afford to buy all of the supercars available (can't afford one), I think I would be fatigued after the first 4 or 5.

This one is looks like Toyota did the styling.

I am not sure it will look like this. This is almost identical to a Photoshop shown in Car Magazine 12 months ago. Since then Frank Stephenson has been hired as chief styling, so I just cannot imagine he won't give it a workover before it comes to market.

And for those saying this ins't enough, think the powerplant of the Zonda C12 in a car weighing around the same but for half the price. This car is highly likely to move the game on significantly.

I don't think the one in Car magazine a while ago was a photoshop. Unless I'm mistaken, it was an exclusive privelage granted to them.

I like this car. It's simple and clean, and original too. Nothing special, but I like it.

F1 successor my ass!... these designs came out way to fast... they need to spend WAY more time. this pissed me off even more: "targeted rivals Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo would have also moved their game up by release date in 2010. Resulting horses will be along the 500 bhp lines, and if it weighs the 1200kg earmarked, it should make for a sub 4-second mechanical arrow."

F430 and gallardo??? WTF... this cars competition should be the likes of enzo, bugatti, mucielago, zonda, MC12, carrera GT etc... and this SHOULD regain the fastest car in the world title once more. i wish it did. McLaren... PLEASE. don't put that name on this car lol

You are a poet and a philosopher! Couldn't have said it better myself! The F1 took years of research and development. That engineering marvel set the bar at a level most could only envy for years to come. This design is not worthy of that legacy. I mean why the hell even bother? The original design still looks better.

this isn't a new F1. the old F1 was designed to be the ultimate car (and it succeeded, in my opinion). this is just a normal supercar - though, that said, it'll likely wipe the floor with its rivals. they've been talking about making an F1 replacement (can't wait!!) for a while, but all the reports about it say it'll come out a few years after this

the old F1's legacy was that it held the fastest top speed record for a decade - the longest it was held for, pretty sure - and the lm version had the 0-62 for even longer (2.9 sec - i don't think it was beaten until the veyron?). and with the rev limiter taken off it was faster than the car that took the record off it (ccr). and all that despite its having plenty of cargo space, 3 seats and was an acceptable everyday car. to pull that off again, it'd have to be pushing 300mph, and 0-62 in literally one second. to do that, even if it still weighed only 1200kg, it'd need... at a guess? 2000 bhp? and a hell of a lot more torque than the original. i don't think we have the technology for that just yet...

.. the F1, an everyday car ? really now.. the M3 or the RS4 could be "everyday sportscars". and maybe the Scaglietti. that's about it. supercars aren't made to be "everyday cars". and that's especially the case with the F1. it did a great job at what it was meant to do, but it certainly wasn't a car for everyday use. may I remind you, for example, that you need ear-protection in the LM ?..

then again this topic isn't about the old F1, but about this "new leaked picture". and.. well, I certainly hope for McLaren that this isn't the final version of the design. I don't doubt that they know how to make performance cars and probably this new one will be very quick for it's class. but the design is just.. dull compared to it's potential rivals. of course, there will always be McLaren fans and performance-oriented and passionate drivers, but they'll certainly not going to make a big profit out of it with those looks. it's a "supercar". it has to look "super" !

ha it's an everyday car, if you can afford the fuel bills and the currently going price of several million USD. it's no track monster, it was designed with relative comfort in mind. "everyday supercar" might be a bit more fitting... and as for the LM, that IS a track monster, it's literally a racing car made so that it's road legal

agreed on the looks... but i'm guessing they'll be going for aerodynamics rather than looks

looks a bit too much like the Lotus Evora
