In celebrating 40 years of the GTS badge, Holden Special Vehicles has unveiled a special GTS model at the Australian International Motor Show. The car will be limited to a production run of only 100 units, made in only two colours called Sting Red and Heron White. The GTS comes fitted with ‘40 years of GTS' moniker on brake calipers, sill plate, rear panel and embedded on headrests. Meaning you cannot miss it. HSV sells the GTS for a minimum of AU$80,170.

More exclusive than the GTS is the 50-unit-only HSV Senator Signature SV08. It wears sill plates, more chrome on door handles and side mirrors and exclusive paint-outs, as well as the standard 20-inch Pentagon wheels. Senator Signature SV08 is a direct descendent of the 1988 SV88. The run is divided into 20 manual and 30 automatic models, priced from AU$82,700.

In addition, two brutes in the form of ClubSport R8 Tourer and W427 will make their way into the show floors at the AIMS. Having seen these already, we know the ClubSport R8 Tourer to be the bearer of 317kW of power and 550Nm of torque from the ‘Vette-sourced LS3 powerplant. The second brute is the W427 whose 7.0-litre makes a heady 373kW. Retail price comes in at AU$155,500.

Assumptions are the mother of all f* ups. To use a rather clichéd internet meme, OWNED!

well sorry i agree with GanSan... i live in AU at the moment and i have also lived in Europe, personally i think that the euro built cars are alot better, style wise and build quality wise...

Another shoddily built, overpriced car from a poor manufacturer. If there was no need for taxis or fleet cars (or bogans who like to go fast, but only in a straight line and who think that burnouts are cool), the Australian car industry would have died out long ago, taking the excessive import tariffs with them. The tariffs should be warning enough not to buy these cars. The "European inspired styling" is put to shame by the chunkiness of the car. This sort of styling would be okay on something small like an Audi A4. Look at what Mercedes do with long cars, like the CLS - it's sleek, not a monstrosity like the VE.

@ gran san never have i heard such stupid comments but than again your a id!ot. HSVs handle just as well as anything from Europe. And Aus has some of the lowest tariffs in the world most countries especially asian have massive tariffs Japs, malaysia,Indonesia,India to name a few. As for your comment on styling well as i said before your an id!ot.

by Davethepetrolhead | October 11, 2008 7:37 AM
Ah, Davethepetrolhead. Your blind and factless defence amuses me, not to mention the following quote, "your a id!ot". Clearly you're one of the uneducated bogans I was referring to. If you have to insult to make your point, you should reconsider your motives. "HSVs handle just as well as anything from Europe", this is a broad statement which provides no evidence whatsoever. Anything? Perhaps they handle better than a Fiat, but I wouldn't go any further than that. Why do you think Australian car exports are so poor? Here's a quote from ABC.net.au, "Mr Macfarlane says the Government spends $1 billion a year helping to maintain an Australian car manufacturing industry". It can't even sustain itself. Here's an idea of the quality of Australian manufactured cars, "Despite a $1 billion development budget - the most of any locally-made car - the new Holden Commodore has the same safety rating as a five-year-old Ford Falcon" (i.e. 4 stars). The FG Falcon is the ONLY Australian manufactured car to receive a 5 star rating. http://www.ancap.com.au/results/5star/ - look at this list and you'll see just how behind the times Australia's "industry" is. As for Indonesia and Malaysia, when is the last time you saw a Kijang cruising the streets? Proton is the only brand Malaysia has going for it and that's not saying much. In short, they're impoverished countries without a real industry of their own. If you've ever been to either country, you'll notice that most people ride mopeds because the congestion of cars would bring the cities to a standstill. Now for Japan. Japan have 0% import tariff on US cars and are negotiating tariff-free trade with the EU. What part of that says to you that they have high import tariffs? Perhaps you should lose your bias, open your mind and perhaps open a book once in a while. All of these facts are readily available to those willing to seek them.

I forgot to mention India; they're in the same boat as Indonesia and Malaysia. By the way, brilliant rebuttal on my opinion of the styling. I didn't realise that opinions on styling had any correlation to intellectual capacity.

GanSan i don't know where to start with all your silly comments you rip me for my babymilo comment yet you call ME a bogan do you even know what a bogan is? Its one of those terms people use but don't know the meaning of. If you want a comparison to a euro how about a E class even if its twice the price. I'm aware of the Japs 0% tariff but they tie their yen to the $US imports will always be dearer in japan because of that. Both BMW & Merc spend well over $m on development so do most makers. NCAP only tested the Omega no upper spec cars like the Caprice the E-gas falcon only got 4stars. Considering we only have 3 car companies they do pretty well with exports even then there only allowed to fill the gaps the parent company don't want. As for the government helping the industry all governments help their makers to some extent. The rest of your silly comments i can't be bothered responding to.

by Davethepetrolhead | October 12, 2008 5:34 AM
You haven't even tried to defend a single point. "The rest of your silly comments i can't be bothered responding to", says it all.

Goodbye Davethepetrolhead. I've lost interest reading your weak excuses.

by GanSan | October 12, 2008 6:31 AM
Weak excuses all your answers are weak and not just this article is seems you can't win anything.

by Davethepetrolhead | October 12, 2008 8:44 AM
Yet another irrelevant big dumb Aussie bruiser - where is the grunty diesel Holden? I realise that Diesel is more expensive in Australia but isn't this an export product? Where is the drivetrain innovation?
