Renault Megane Coupe Caught at the Ring

Could this Renault Megane Coupe caught testing at the Nurburgring be the next Alpine?

Enthusiasts hoping for a resurrection of Renault’s famed Alpine nameplate may get their wish, according to some inside sources. There are hints that a high-performance version of the new Megane Coupe could wear the badge, though other sources say that an Alpine-badged performance Renault won’t be based on an existing product.

In any case, we’ve got some spy photos of an enhanced Megane Coupe stretching its legs for some hot laps at the Nürburgring in Germany. The car in camouflage appears to be an older prototype while the unmasked car is more recent. Big Brembo brakes are evident in the photos, and an unusual center-exiting single exhaust. Larger wheels and tires are also obvious.

Renault is silent on the details, of course. Nothing has been confirmed and it’s unlikely that a new Alpine car will hit the streets any time before 2010, but this prototype suggests that Renault’s quite far into the development process.

definitieley a looker this megane. sure theres some elements in its design are not right like the headlight design imo. but overall its a good looking hatch. i'd stop short of calling it a coupe though. love the 3 quarter angle. its the sportiest point of view of the car. good stuff.

I agree with you, too bad everything is a coupe today :( The CLS is a coupe, the Mercedes Fascination Concept is a coupe, even the X6 is a Coupe, why not the Megane? :P My point is that the words starts to get overused. The same way as every wagon and soft-roader has the word "Sport" in it's name (being it Sportwagon or Sport Utility Vehicle)...

In my opinion too. This car looks good. Probably drivable even better than previous model which was not a last in the segment. That coupe will be one of the cars in my home, I'm afraid.

ok, this seems to be a nice car. but: this has nothing to do with alpine. please, renault, bring us back a real alpine sportscar!

this will not be Alpine car, this is just a RS version of the new Megane Coupe. Probably it is going to be the best car in its segment, just like Megane II RS (and R26 and R26.R)

This thing is damn ugly and why call it a coupe? Its just a 2 door hatchback...

the "2693 WWC 191" plate is a manufacturer plate... the Wxx or WWx series are also used by dealers or short time registrations...

why would worldcarfans put their logo on a picture that already has a logo on it?
