Unveiled last weekend on the sly at Tokyo's Motorsport Japan 2008 motor show and snapped there by colleagues over at LeBlogAuto, this is the Subaru Impreza WRX STi Takumi Concept. After much digging, we've been able to scoop the first official photo of Takumi, a concept embodying the forthcoming Spec-C version of the WRX STi. Modifications to the STi's turbocharged 2.5-liter boxer are expected to be minimal, the developers over at Scooby HQ instead focusing on weight reduction.

Details are scarce - and our Japanese rusty - but all indications, including those from its predecessors, point to the Spec-C variant trimming some 70 kilos (or 155 lbs) off the STi's kerb weight. The weight loss comes courtesy of lightweight body panels for roof, boot lid and doors, thinner compartment glass and a smaller fuel tank and battery. A revised aero kit, principally new spoilers front and rear, also includes the addition of a roof scoop, while new lightweight white rims provide the finishing touch. Underpinnings are revised, with uprated shocks and springs as well as a stiffened suspension configuration.

The Impreza WRX STi Spec-C is expected to make its production-form debut at January's Tokyo Auto Salon. Stay tuned.

Interesting, I wonder how it handles...

By the way, whats with the Takumi name? Will this be used to deliver Tofu at Mt. Akina?

if this is spec-c then this definetly doesn't have 2.5l turbo engine, instead of that there s a 2.0l turbo engine. spec-c stands for clubman specification, witch is developed for racing reasons only. becouse u can't go rallying with 2.5l turbo engine becouse there is no class in witch u could fit that kind of an engine

Hahahaha, yeah right. This thing looks like a pile of dung. The older body styles were not only functional, but light as well.

Subaru's (or is it more Fujitsu Heavy Industry's) move to go with this fugly hatchback was pretty stupid. I am glad that they are losing to Mitsubishi more often. If they change the Legacy chassis to a hatch, that's it for Suby.

Well if you think it's ugly, that's just your opinion. I on the other hand like this styling. Looks more aggresive than any other hatch out there.

Hahaha...the new Imprezza is a compromise car. They didn't want to develope both a sedan and a wagon this time so they did the next logical thing...a four door hatchback!
