Last week Lamborghini teased the world with a couple of small detail images of a mystery concept set to be unveiled. It is true most of us were left scratching our heads analysing what little evidence we were presented with, but the usually reliable folks over at autonews have confirmed with its inside sources that it will be a four door coupe. To top that off we can also reveal it will be called Urus (meaning large cattle) after Carspyshots user erzhik uncovered Lamborghini had registered the name with the trademark office.

The model will not only be a concept, but a preview of a production model that is in the pipeline, it represents a huge gamble for the supercar maker, diversifying their business model to compete in a formidable battle with the Aston Martin Rapide and Porsche Panamera.

The Gallardo and Murcielago model lines sport a rear engine setup, but this new four-door will place its engine at the front of the vehicle, just behind the front axle. It is believed the Gallardo's 5.0-liter V10 power unit may struggle to fit into the smaller engine bay meaning we may see a new engine unit with a smaller displacement introduced.

Lamborghini apparently plans to sell 3,000 units of the four-door coupe each year, a figure which would send their annual sales figures through the roof. In the first half of 2008, Lamborghini sold just 1,309 vehicles.

i suggest they put the murcielago's V12 in it. that will bring it to a more competitive level against rivals like AMG.

by anonymous | September 22, 2008 3:13 PM
It's stated that they can't even fit the 5.0 V10. I highly doubt they would be able to fit a V12.

by Meeshka | September 25, 2008 7:05 PM
i am sure shares the platform of the Audi A7 4-door coupe, which comes out next year as well. this one could def. take some sales away from the DB7.

by catchmyshadow | September 22, 2008 3:23 PM
DB7? didn't you mean the DB9 or DBS?

by odysseus | September 23, 2008 11:07 PM
..and AM Rapide

by catchmyshadow | September 22, 2008 3:24 PM
'Murcielago', 'Gallardo' and 'URUS' lol.. worst name ever... then again whats in a name; "Dacia Sandero" anyone.

by greenacre | September 22, 2008 3:41 PM
Here is Lamborghini Urus Saloon. Maybe Estate is coming soon... But why???

by mechamynd | September 22, 2008 3:47 PM
Yes. Worst name ever. What do they mean the V10 won't fit. Cram it in, I say! I'd be gutted if they plonk a V8 or *shudder* a V6 in the front there. It won't be crazy enough then. It won't be Lambo enough. The idea of a four-door is diluting enough. At least let it have mental power. It should whup the Panamera and Rapide.

by mmr66 | September 22, 2008 5:56 PM

by munch997 | September 22, 2008 6:00 PM
"Urus" a Latin word with Germanic origins used to describe a very large type of bull prevalent in Europe until their extinction in 1627. here is a picture:

by catchmyshadow | September 22, 2008 6:42 PM
So it's going to be big, heavy and cumbersome?

by Airbag | September 22, 2008 6:52 PM

by M! | September 22, 2008 7:44 PM

by Airbag | September 22, 2008 7:58 PM
OK thanks, so Urus is a Bull´s name, but I don´t like it anyway...

by Paulds | September 22, 2008 7:54 PM
BTW... this is how we knew about it?? no one knew what happened??? Where are the "spies"??

by Paulds | September 22, 2008 8:13 PM

Don't know what to say until i c the full car in Paris, but i am worried it ruins the name some how. Only time will tell. Anyways wish them luck and hope it works out for them, its gona be hard beating the Aston Martin four door or maybe even the Porsche even though i think its very ugly. In my opinion they should have made a two door four seater type car like the 612 ferrari for example. That would have been an easier task in being the best in that car class i think. I am still excited to c it, i am sure they wont let us down with the looks at least. Lambo is famous for that!

by NoureldeenAlfassi | September 22, 2008 10:09 PM
i kinda half knew that it was a 4 door coupe, but im not sure about it...

by BabyMilo | September 23, 2008 2:34 AM
It's about the HUGE amount of revenue Lamborghini will be generated. Where do I buy Lambo stocks?? This company will be the next Apple. If they hit the Cayenne Turbo S/Bentley Flying Spur/S65 target market, they'll sale out all units even before they're built.

by Wickedated | September 23, 2008 5:58 AM
No Please....dont dilute one's identity for more volume.killing d appeal of a brand which took such long to establish.Dear sir, even nissan can make fast cars.u can tune a supra to beat the hell out of a gallardo. So what makes a lamborghini a lamborghini...the appeal and the exclusivity.why u want to stuff 4 people inside the car.plz dnt do it..stick to what u do the best and improve on that.

by porscheinmysoul | September 23, 2008 7:16 AM
Im scared, this could ruin Lamboghinis image. A four door coupe has already destrouyed Porsche, PLEASE dont destroy Lambo too.

by ipsesnipse | September 23, 2008 11:56 AM
What are u talking about? a 4 door sedan or coupe is much more appropriate for a sportscar manufacturer than producing SUVs for exsample. If Aston can sell sport 4-seaters, Porsche and Lamborghini can do it as well without ruining the brand...in fact that is what a lot of daddys have been waiting for, cause it isn´t really funny to carry ur children or friends in a 911 on a longer trip

by catchmyshadow | September 23, 2008 3:18 PM
Panamera ruined Porsche for me cause its so ugly not cause its a bit more practical than a 911, Porsches whole idea is that its a supercar for everyday using. In my opinion all four door coupes so far have been ugly and if the Urus is ugly Lambo is destroyed for me. The only goodlookin four door coupe ive seen is the AM Rapide. Besides the panamera looks more like a wagon than a coupe, so something has gone wrong in terms of styling if they call a wagon a coupe. And the Cayenne actually looks quite good, in my opinion.

by ipsesnipse | September 24, 2008 12:52 PM
It's got four doors and its engine's in the front. How Lambo-like...

by Kaamraan | September 23, 2008 5:36 PM
maybe I am pointing out the obvius but lambo started off building tractors and they also produced SUV some 20 years ago, Khadaffi used to drive their SUV rumours has it...point being, a 4 door won´t destroy the brand. look at the porsche boxter and cayman, those kind of "beginner-cars" in my oppinion destroys the porsche brand, not the panamera or cayenne. that´s all!

by mangemo | September 23, 2008 10:42 PM
Yeah there was that LM002 even- I don't think it will destroy the brand, I'm just not sure how a Lambo with four doors will look. And when was the last time they used anything smaller than a V10?

by Kaamraan | September 24, 2008 2:04 PM
I don't think its a bad move from Lamborghini, i'm waiting to see more pics of the car but what keeps me intrigued is the price...if they want to compete against the rapide and the panamera it shouldn't be so pricey, and like many people are saying if Ferrari is going to do something similar i think not, their Calisupra will be their money making machine, something Lamborghini doesn't have.

by Bori | September 24, 2008 7:53 AM
I do not think it is a bad move either. Lamborghini does not make sports cars, they make high performance cars. Ferrari is still the purists' buy when it comes to having the pinnacle of racing technology and dynamics. Craftmanship will not be compromised becasue they are profitable. Lamborghini has revived itself over the past few years creating high powered, well engineered all wheeel drive cars sourced from VW. This venture into this budding segment is interesting and not surprising. This is the new Lamborghini. AS FOR THE OLD LAMBORGHINI, (ahem, real Lamborghini), I sat in an electric green with sky blue interior Miura 400 SV in flawless condition, fresh off the auction block the other day. im still shaking

That URUS is a coolest name. Educated you see! On pevious comments: How the hell a making four door coupe might dilute the brand of supercar manufacturer? No way. Supercar, can be superbly driven, is not a solution for family needs for transportation or even for everyday usage. 4-door is, and it is good that way. Probably Audi is about to make own solution for a "reasonably priced" coupe with rear doors to join the club. VW-s one is not enough to compeat MB and coming BMW-s sibling and not enough for enter to the premium class car manufacturers circle. For article of WCF: Do not be worry. The V10 engine will be paced under the hood of URUS almost in a way it was done in a case of Audi (R)S6. The shift of engin block backwise will be not radical problem, rahter 4WD needs special attention.

by alessandro | September 24, 2008 9:38 AM
whoever thought this was an upgraded murcielago or high performance coupe....reevaluate your senses. Look at the size of those rotors...c'mon. Mainly, try and picture this car..., on sedan platform, benefitting from high quality materials, unique(exclusive) design cues, showcar presentation. try and picture that sick , nasty, "who the hell cares", back end of a lamborghini that truly is a large, integral part of their design heritage that will be absent. oh...and...try and picture a lamborghini rear window.
