First Look: Fiat 500 Cabrio Spied & Rendered

The open-top version of the Fiat 500 stepped out for a breather and luckily our spies were there to catch it. But a close look at the model reveals that this model is quite clearly sporting a set of B-Pillars and C-Pillars confirming that Fiat are in fact working on TWO cabrio versions of the Fiat 500.

As we can see the A-line which runs from the base of the windscreen to the base of the rear window on this semi-convertible prototype remains in tact, but we are just missing the roof area which will gain a retractable textile cover instead. This should keep the development costs of this model down to a minimum as Fiat would be able to use the body structure from the regular 500.

Rumours have stated a 2009 Geneva Show debut has been planned by the Italian automaker but we wouldn't want to rule out the possibility of a surprise appearance in Paris next month.

i really dont see whats so cool about this car. the design is ordinary especially from the rear and the profile. mini does the whole retro thing far far better under bmw's guidance. hide the badges on the fiat and it could be anything. its not a patch on the original that its inspired from. probably selling in bucket loads on the continent though......

I'd correct you there. The first new MINI as Rover contributed to it looked great, but the MINI mk 2 as was all BMW looks like a Chinese copy of the original.

The 500 is quite cute but it's really a small amount of detailing that makes it stand out from the crowd. I think it won't take long for us all to get used to it and then suddently it's just another small car.

Smarts still turn my head though.

It's a re-run of the original idea - when you could get a Cinquecento with either the short sunroof or a roof that rolled right back to the base of the rear engine cover.
