Ferrari Enzo Successor Mule Spotted for First Time
Our intuitive spies from Carpix have caught what is believed to be the first shots of a mule for the successor to the all conquering Ferrari Enzo. It is wearing the body of the F430 Scuderia and had it not been for the shabby looks it may well have gone unnoticed.
The first thing that caught our eye on this model was the huge centrally mounted exhaust pipe that sits neatly at the bottom of the rear end. Judging by the incredible sound coming from this model, is is obvious the regular twin exhausts of the 430 Scuderia are completely unused. The wheelbase also look unusually long which further add to our suspicions.
The project is currently known as FX70 internally at Ferrari and they are still undecided as to what powertrain to employ under the bodywork. The first option would be to continue in the tradition of the first Enzo and pack a powerful V12 engine in, however the Prancing horse may look to downsize to a Twin-turbo V8. The latter of the two would see a power figure of between 50hp and 100hp lower than its larger alternative, but the weight saving advantages could see the performance maintained.
Some say the new Enzo could arrive as soon as 2010, but considering the test vehicles haven't made it past mule form yet, this seems unlikely. We will probably see it in either 2011 or 2012 with a price tag of at least $500,000 and a production run of around 300 vehicles.

If that is the Enzo's Successor, it looks like its going to be smaller since it can hide in the F430's body without the need to extend or widen the donor body.

The body is widened, and when they tested the V12 out of the enzo they did it in a 360 modena. If they went turbo they would lose out to lamborghini, the flagship needs a V12, hell even if its a smaller V12 with turbo it has to stay a V12.

why do we need an Enzo successor??
by BabyMilo | September 4, 2008 2:18 PM
just like the F50 was the F40's successor, and the Enzo was the F50's successor...

Every F car, starting with the Initial 512 BB LM Homologato, has basically been an anniversary celebration of Ferrari. F40 was the 40th, F50 the 50th and so on. This should be the 60th.

Don't Ferrari halo models come every ten years?

If it is based (mule) on a F430, then this should be slightly smalled than the Enzo. It should either be called the F60 (previous name of the Enzo. Actually, F70.) or Enzo (again)

they did a lot of testing with the FXX program. so really, their production time could be sooner than normal.

they should put a v16 in it that would be mad.

Forced induction engines are never considered beautiful in the motoring perfectionist's definition of the word -- i.e. Those who appreciate Ferraris. While Ferrari has offered forced induction power plants (read: 288 GTO, F40), I do not believe anyone worth an opinion in the matter would consider these sorts of engines as beautifully refined as, for instance, the Enzo's 6.0 L V12. I am a huge fan of the F40, no mistaking, but even I am not so naive as to believe the engine is anything more than the best made of a bad situation -- that is, the 1979 energy crisis that steadily grew worse up until a year before the F40's launch.

When the California was being developed everyone thought that its mules were the "baby ferrari", Dino or whatever. Are we sure that this is really the next supercar? Maybe it's something else....?

It could be the new Enzo cuz they said that from now on we will make lighter cars with probably the same power as our previous cars. Of course we all know what that means. Just take the F430 Scuderia as an example, yes they added a little more power but that isn't the only difference, the weight, body as in aerodynamics, brakes, suspension etc... Those were the true differences between the normal F430 and the Scuderia. I believe thats what they will do to the Enzo. In my opinion this car is not the mule for the Enzo. I think this is the mule for the new F430 which is supposed to come out in 2010.

Sounds like they'll come up with more economical enzo. What about great W12 scream? We dont want a turbo whistling ferraris.

First of the FXX is only a track car used for testing on suspension n further development of the v12 so they may have had some time to prepare but its unlike Ferrari to use the same engine in their flagship model. If Ferrari is going to build a new super car their going to start from scratch EX. the F430 use the same frame n some parts from the 360 but look they took it all scraped it n started from scratch new engine trans diff interior n exterior styling. When Ferrari starts something they do it from scratch. Now to the matter at hand this may be a mule for the next F super car from Ferrari, in the past Ferrari used the 360 n 355 to test the V12 out of the Enzo looked like a regular Ferrari 360 or 355 yet it had a V12 under to hood. So this car with the center exhaust might be the new F car it also is longer the rear wheels actually go back a bit as u can see the rear bumper is cut out n there pretty wide. So for the next few months maybe a year will just half to wait n see what Ferrari is planning but i wouldn't be surprised if this was the next Enzo, if it turns out to be a 430 successer than that wouldnt surprise me either so I'm waiting happily to see what they pull out this time. :)

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/20/ferrari-enzo-successor-to-feature-900-hp-twin-turbo-v8/ Check out this site where it talks about the new possible Enzo successor! This is why i said that they probably will start making smaller and lighter cars with more or less the same engines. But of course none of this is confirmed. Like Sebfill55 said we will have to wait and see.
