Ferrari 430 Scuderia set to Spawn a Spider Variant?
According to a report by the Italian obsessed guys over at autoblog.it, Ferrari are developing a spider version of their 430 Scuderia which was originally presented at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show by Michael Schumacher. Just 300 units of the Scuderia were planned to be built by the Prancing Horse but these latest details could point towards an unintended increase in its production numbers, a trend not totally unheard of – remember the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport?
Clearly the performance aspect will be the most challenging area, the 430 Scuderia Coupe weighs in at just 1250kg and considering the spider model is likely to be fitted with a retractable hard-top we expect to see the overall dry weight raise by around 70kg.
The 510hp 4.3-liter V8 power unit will stay unchanged, therefore we would expect Ferrari to maintain its acceleration and top speed performance figures with the introduction of the new 7-speed dual clutch transmission system which will debut in the brand new Ferrari California.
November 5th is the date you should cross off in your diaries, it is the day when the Ferrari Challenge at Mugello commences and it is the expected venue of the unveiling of the new model.

A retractable hardtop on a mid-engined sports car? A convertible roof on a super-lightweight track car? What foolishness. I hope autoblog.it is just blowing smoke, otherwise the Scuderia risks losing a lot of its credibility as a track-focused automobile.

Retractable hard-top? Exactly what I was thinking. Big mistake.

Fail. Don't put a soft-top on this track car. It'll just ruin it. It'll make it heavy, so what will be the point of it? plus it'll be even more expenisve. Don't screw up an awesome car.

well this just totally ruined my opinion about this car. seriously WHY even have an option for this specific model? there's an F430 spider. this is a track spec made for track use. you don't see convertible's racing fast around tracks.

A retractable hard-top.............I think it might be more like a targa than a cabriolet. But the roof and the rea section bodywork will have to be altered quite significantly in order to accomodate the hard-top canopy. The Fioravanti roof on the 575M Superamerica might be not an option because of the mid-engine layout of the F430. It would be interesting to see what Ferrari comes up with.

I think this car is for those people who need more than just a convertible to drive slowly in a sunny day.... so I don't believe a convertible is really needed....or demanded...but you never know... Anyways, this is a great car and hope Ferrari don't make something stupid out of a great car

yep... the one modern Ferrari that I haven't written off. I hope they don't make a spider scuderia.

yeah it would be a shame to see a convertible of the model, thought the idea of the scuderia was meant to be light and very basic for the car core people who dont want a V12. a sport version of the California would be nice, now thats a car that needs a sport pack to it. just hopefully this is the car they are working on
