The Volvo C30 is based the same Ford C1 platform that is used by the Mazda3 and Ford Focus, and despite these two other models offering a number of different body styles, the C30 has so far been limited to just the hatchback version. Quiet rumours have been doing the rounds for a while that a new version could be spawned and these rumours have once again surfaced following contradicting reports by Dutch site Autotelegraaf and autonews.

Autonews has stated that the Swedish manufacturer has scrapped plans to work on further C30 based variants due to the global market downturn. However Autotelegraaf who have proved to be very reliable in the past have confirmed Volvo are working on introducing a new model every year for the next 3-4 years with the all-new V30 wagon included on this list. Other models set for launch are the long awaited S60 replacement and the already revealed XC60.

The Volvo V50 which only received a facelift for the 2008 model year is likely to be scrapped at the end of its current lifecyle with an wagon version of the new S60 set to fill its gap. This then leaves a large space in the Volvo portfolio for the new V30 to fit in.

The current HOT version of the C30 has twin exhausts...this one has four doors instead of 2.

While it looks great...I can't see the point of this car. Most C30's I see on the road have only the driver inside.

You don't really see this sort of "premium" hatch being used as a multi-person transportation method.

Maybe they should've invested the development funds on something else...

If I were a dope-head in Colorado I might consider an AWD mini station wagon. I have to admit it looks more substantial for the money than the sedan or hatch. This car is stepping into next gen S50 territory, which i am avidly awaiting.

i like it, it looks very nice and i think it is more practical than the normal c30 (that is a very nice car) but you still get the good looks, i hope vovlo make it

As long as they keep that one-piece glass tailgate, this car is not practical.

archytype, there is no such thing as the S50.

The 3 door already looks stylish and the 5 door would make a nice addition to the range ... however ... a neighbour of mine with a brand new C30 had an electrical problem which caused the "unique to Volvo" heavy duty battery to die, this required a replacement battery to be shipped from Sweden to Australia, meanwhile they had to provide him with a courtesy car (Mercedes) for two weeks ... that's just CRAZY !!!

now thats what i call a courtesy car... vovlo obviously have costomer satisfaction in mind... this makes me proud to be swedish

it was only a used A class ... probably worth less than the one month old C30
