ON VIDEO: Honda/Acura NSX Caught Powering Round Nurburgring Again

The revival of the Japanese supercars has been fantastic, models such as the Toyota LF-A and Nissan GT-R have been a breath of fresh air on the industry and soon the Honda/Acura NSX will get in on the party. Unlike the previous mid-engined NSX, this prototype is running a front-mid engine, with its powerplant placed well behind the front wheels to ensure excellent weight distribution. This should also allow the new NSX to offer 2+2 cabin accommodation, broadening its appeal – particularly in the USA.

Under the hood we can definitely hear the bite of a V10, there are however questions over whether Honda will turbo charge this engine or perhaps leave it in its naturally aspirated form. Honda’s not as obsessed as many by big horsepower outputs, but even so an output of 450 hp seems likely. Should such an engine be fitted to the sort of lightweight body as the previous NSX, the performance would be exceptional.

Not expected until 2009, Honda’s supercar is aiming to compete against rivals like Porsche’s 911 Turbo, the Ferrari F430 and the Lamborghini Gallardo.

Hell, this will never be as good as the first NSX.

by tootall | August 28, 2008 8:17 PM
this leaves the nsx to compete with the GTR, no more supra or toyota super car???

Doesnt look half as good as the R35. Would like to see a new Supra. Toyota just doesnt seem to care about the sportscarmarket

What about the Toyota/Lexus LF-A?

by Kepe | August 28, 2008 10:05 PM
I thought the new Supra got scrapped because of concerns on fuel consumption and stuff crap like that?

by nurchus | August 28, 2008 10:14 PM
looks like the front end of the 350z and the back of a back 599gtb. slightly. veyry slightly

by great_supercars255 | August 28, 2008 11:16 PM
i think the front has the same look as the S2000 has.

i hope this beats both the R35, and the ZR-1 just to piss off all these haters hating on it haha. that would make MY day. However, i must say i'm dissapointed by the setup. why front engine rwd?? why not the same setup as the previous NSX??? who knows, but this doesnt LOOK as good as the previous NSX, but hopefully this out performs it and its competitors. I mean why would they make a car the DOESN'T out perform all those cars???

Same here. The R35 impresses me so I would like to see this NSX beat the R35. I want to see the new NSX beat the ZR1 just because the ZR1 is so damn ugly. I loved the Z06 but the design's gotten old. I also liked what the Honda ceo said about how he would not want this car to be sold until it beats the GT-R in the 'ring. So Honda has the right idea

if that render is what it is aimed to look like, then im impressed. The front resembles the California but it stands out from the pack. Simple yet elegant. It is not comparable to the original NSX.

front - mid engine, SH-AWD

by phobos | August 29, 2008 5:13 AM
u know this will def. be in league w. the GTR nd then ZR1.. it has to. and all those haters well it looks very good... the rendering doesnt do it justice.. just like the new acuras dont look good in picture but they look hot in flesh! so when u seen one on the streets.. dont be shocked if u start drooling

by desiathate | August 29, 2008 6:31 AM
also damn that sounds good compared to the gtr!

by desiathate | August 29, 2008 6:31 AM
Wow... If it looks anything like the two pics above, then it looks quite nice and sleek.

by ShAwNeX | August 29, 2008 7:27 AM
Please be a light body.. please be a light body... please be a light body...

by brocky | August 29, 2008 8:44 AM
Damn that sounds good

by KayGeeOh | August 29, 2008 12:00 PM
im dissapointed in it's looks, i really am. they even copied lexus's 4 piece tailpipes. but i have to admit it sounds awsome.

by norther | August 29, 2008 7:34 PM
The wail of that engine note is badass. I'm starting to like the body/design a lot more as well. The artist rendering are slightly off I feel, especially in the back, but overall you get the general impression. It's going to be an S2000 on steroids.

by RobERob | August 29, 2008 10:43 PM
What a shame on Honda of saying "Honda ceo said about how he would not want this car to be sold until it beats the GT-R in the 'ring" Always other Jap manufacture in the back and Nissan is a head of them. And the lighter version and stronger one GTR is soon will see the light and it will kick this NSX and it's CEO.

Dear kepe. I were talkin about Toyota, not Lexus. I know its sort of the same company but they dont have the same priorities and decision makers. Same owners but different engineers and so.
