There is a strong possibility that your initial reaction to the photos you see above and to the right hand side are officially released images of the brand new Chevy Camaro SS. That is where you would be wrong, they are in fact the work Kevin Kolvenback of Hudon Calley, New York who happen to stumble upon the model's photo shoot at the Spring Mountain Motorsports in Pahrump, Nevada. We have to hand it to Kevin, he has produced some quite amazing shots – so good that we even question the authenticity of the source

The Super Sport (SS) model sits at the top of the Camaro pile, it is powered by 2008 Corvette's 6.2-liter V8 engine which pumps out 422 horsepower (315 kW) and 408 lb.-ft. of torque (553 Nm). The LS3 engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission system on the rear-wheel drive sportscar, full performance figures are yet to be announced.

For me, the new Camaro is tops in the Mustang/Camaro/Challenger comparison. It just gets the style right, the proportions, the details, and wraps it all up in a perfectly balanced package of retro and modern design. I look forward to seeing what Ford comes up with for its 2010 Mustang, but for now, the Camaro is king as I see it.

yup.. yup..

by sris | August 26, 2008 12:50 PM
hmm, nah, the gills still throw me off, the whole car seems toyish, I prefer the Challenger.

by joe_limon | August 26, 2008 12:53 AM
LMAO and the challenger doesent seem toyish??????????????

by pzigly | August 26, 2008 9:14 AM
lmao.. then all American cars seem toyish!! :P

by sris | August 26, 2008 12:48 PM
actually yes, the challenger does look less toyish, it's body panels look like they were made out of metal rather then some cheap chinese plastic. It's probably just paint quality that is providing this effect though.

by joe_limon | August 26, 2008 6:20 PM
agreed MAB. for me the camaro looks the best and gets it right on. just enough power to light up the pavement, but not so much as to overthrow the vette. i also like the challenger, but the interior is so plasticy and cheap it makes you mad. the interior on this one looks good.

this will burn the mustang.

by mmr66 | August 26, 2008 1:44 AM
Sick! Effing sick!

by RobERob | August 26, 2008 1:50 AM
Absolutely smashing! If Chevy keeps this up, not only will their wonderful Corvette be king, but this car too. That Volt should be trashed.

I am not holding any hopes of that new Mustang looking attractive, except if they keep true to their concept car they unveiled a few moons ago. Only then will I say that the Ford Mustang has now given Chevy a kick in the batty. But I will seriously doubt Ford will be smart and stay true to the concept they unveiled.

BMW 3 coupe is best, these are rubbish..

by gorkyphoenix | August 26, 2008 2:38 AM
if they wanted to compete with the 3 series they could have, this is a totally different class of sports car for the average joe, not even meant to be compete with the 3 series luxury/sport catagory. i think your in the wrong discussion, and while your trying to think of some witty comeback, why don't you change your dorky name first. (gorkyphoenix?) wtf?

by FOXHOUND | August 26, 2008 6:14 AM
Nice FOXHOUND you took the words out of my mouth. The Camaro SS isn't supposed to compete withe the 3 series even though I'm sure it will be faster than it. and really what is gorkyphoenix. How can you take the comments with a name like that seriously?

by gmfan09 | August 26, 2008 8:31 AM
They should make an offer, buy 2 Camaros and get a fuel station for free.

by Speedoholic | August 26, 2008 9:12 AM
yet it gets better mileage then a similarly powered European car... weird.

by joe_limon | August 26, 2008 6:22 PM
same lights and front bumper, but thats good

by great_supercars255 | August 26, 2008 10:28 AM
I do love muscle cars... ALL of them.

They're a great chick magnet too! Try that in a Hybrid!

by car_nut | August 26, 2008 1:56 PM
Pollution must have kicked any sort of intelligence you might have had straight out the window. With all respect due to these muscle cars; there is no way that they will be faster than the 3Series models i.e. if you had to compare the SS to the M3 for instance

by Decypha | August 26, 2008 2:10 PM
They are not in the same segment, the much much more expensive BMW M3 will probably be faster, but the Camaro SS is probably priced like a BMW 135i.

by AG4 | August 26, 2008 3:15 PM
Who wants them to be faster? They sound great.

When you drive a V8 Mustang Convertible in the States all the fit girls admire you. When you drive a new, upmarket BMW in London, everyone hates you!

by Car_nut | August 26, 2008 10:47 PM
The SS might barely trail behind the more powerful and ridiculously more expensive m3 but the regular 3 series will get owned by the SS.

by gmfan09 | August 26, 2008 3:40 PM
the C63 benz has more power. the americans lsoe the muscle war

by plasma_cluster | August 26, 2008 5:27 PM
The lingenfelter vette has over double any benz modified or unmodified, therefore americans win the power wars. STFU and compare similar classes of cars.

by joe_limon | August 26, 2008 6:24 PM
The M3 is not more powerful than the SS if you read the article again (309kw vs 315kw)... the SS is a performance Camaro like the M3 is a performance 3Series.

If they can't be compared then let's not make mention of the 3series and rather appreciate the Camaro compared to what it was made to compete against.

by Decypha | August 26, 2008 5:35 PM
Dude they the Camaro SS cost less than most 3 series'. Thats like comparing the Cobalt SS to a ZR1. "Um but the are both the highest performance versions of theirs cars so so lets compare." Thats just dumb. and the Camaro will defiantly have more Performance for the money. And sorry I guess I was thinking of the M5. Now with that said I'm sure the Camaro SS will give the M3 quite some competition and cost more that $20,000 less.

by gmfan09 | August 26, 2008 6:02 PM
bwahahaha hahahaha hahahaha SS camaro give the M3 some competition? At what who can fall apart the fastest. The camaro has never been as agile as the M3, it may take it in the 1/4 mile but who give's a rat's ass? I've seen 9 sec go-karts does that mean they are the best cars?.

by radmeister | August 26, 2008 6:30 PM
All this BS, more performance for the money. Give it up you silly yanks. If a car is faster its faster, if its better its better, money doesn't play a role in that. By your theory we should all drive those new 2500$ Tata's they have like 63hp, which is 39.68$/hp, the ZR1 is 209.68$/hp, so the tata is 5x the car of the ZR1.... Gimme a friggen break with ur BS excuses and come to reality with the fact GM is crap.

by radmeister | August 26, 2008 6:34 PM
radmeister you believe the average middle class income can afford an R8. You no nothing about money. In my mind you are right along side the people who believe the hp/liter ratio is the only ratio by which to measure which car is better engineered then the next. Stfu, read a book or do something else productive that might gain you respect.

by joe_limon | August 26, 2008 11:11 PM
*know

by joe_limon | August 26, 2008 11:11 PM
What theory? radmeister that logic is beyond dumb. enough said. And what make you thing the Camaro won't be able to handle? I wanna say its ignorance

by gmfan09 | August 26, 2008 11:41 PM
Crack is one hell of a drug hey Radmeister? your bazaar comments could only come from the mind of a drug user. The Camaro is not as agile as the M3? how can you compare a car that has not been released yet?

by Davethepetrolhead | August 27, 2008 8:45 AM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA those of you who have been on this site remember "silversedanman"? i think we have the re-incarnation of him here!!!!! hahahahahahaha, and by the way radmeister, if GM is crap then why are they the worlds biggest car brand? you're just another example of european elitest atitudes on this site. you want to talk BS? just look at you own comment.

by FOXHOUND | August 27, 2008 12:12 AM
How is GM the biggest? They are no longer the best selling cars, their stock shares are half of VW group, they lost 15bil last quarter, i cant see how they are the greatest/biggest. Their cars are a joke and so is their marketing strategy. Only reason why they aren't bankrupt is because of loyalist like yourself that truly believe GM is the best. I've owned GMs, BMWs, Saab, and now i have an Audi. I would NEVER go back to GM. You know what i rather pay an extra 20,000$ on an M3 which is about 200$/mo on your lease extra and not have to worry about my car falling apart or worry about turning the stereo on past half volume because my entire dash will rattle. They are a waste of $, you're better off buying a 1 year old M3 for the same price as a new camaro, you will be much more content with your car but the people from your redneck club might revoke your membership.

by radmeister | August 27, 2008 3:52 PM
1 year old M3 costing as much as a new Camaro? on what planet? I think you are forgetting that this car starts at $19000 and at that price it already has 350hp.

by joe_limon | August 27, 2008 6:31 PM
Well obviously i mean a fully loaded SS camaro with the RS package, leather, and Nav.

by radmeister | August 27, 2008 10:08 PM
hahaha, ok so where I live a 2006 M3, (yes a 2 year old M3) averages around $55,000. The Camaro price range will be from $19000-$27000, add on options and Candian taxes/fees etc, where I live you could pick up a fully loaded top of the line Camaro, conservatively for about $35000... if you really really wanted an m3, you would have to go back and buy a 2002 M3 with about 100,000 kms on it. You obviously know nothing about money, which makes sense seeing as you lease your cars rather then actually owning them.

by joe_limon | August 28, 2008 1:15 AM
@ Radmeister stop talking sh!t the cars you mentioned (BMW,SAAB GM)are probably on your playstation games and not the real thing.

by Davethepetrolhead | August 29, 2008 9:27 AM
Alright that's it... how is it that you're willing to use the price difference between an M3 and the SS (+- $20k difference) as an excuse to not compare them but whenever mention is made of the ZR1 beating the GT-R's time on the ring nobody ever excuses it by mentioning the fact the the ZR1 has a premium of $30k to the GT-R??? Is that not hypocritical behavior??? The 3 series should have not been made mention of in the first place...

I'll give the SS it's due but what I'm saying is that if you're going to then try to compare the SS to a 3series, it has to automatically be the M3 because, like the SS, the M3 is the one built for performance and not a regular 3series.

by Decypha | August 27, 2008 12:45 AM
the GTR is sold at a loss, and if you wanted to buy one you would end up paying markup that would push its final price to above the price of the GTR.

by joe_limon | August 27, 2008 12:54 AM
price above the ZR1*

by joe_limon | August 27, 2008 1:05 AM
the price between 30k and 50k and 100k and 70k are a lot different. When your talking about prices that high the prices usually doesn't matter as much to the person buying than it does for the person buying a 30 or 50 k car.

by gmfan09 | August 27, 2008 3:59 AM
yeah but that only applies if you view this from a US point of view keeping in mind that the ZR1, as well as the SS, are American cars.

Now say there's a country that's not American, German or Japanese the price differences would still hold and thus the argument would fall through.

by Decypha | August 27, 2008 11:15 AM
oh and regardless of how a person buying those cars views the matter, it doesn't change the fact that there is a price difference... we're debating about the cars here, not the people that drive them

by Decypha | August 27, 2008 11:18 AM
your right Decypha absolutley right, i will keep whats left of my honor and apologize to anyone i may have offended. its funny the way a simple car can spark such an argument. bottom line its just a car as are all others. some people like them and some don't, no use getting all mad about it.

by FOXHOUND | August 27, 2008 9:26 PM
my quip wasn't with your comment; of course they could compete with BMW if they wanted to...
