Jaguar XF-R Spied in the American Desert

After a surprise yet brief appearance at last months Goodwood Festival of Speed with a little sideways action, we were hoping the sporting Jaguar XF-R would finally take a bow at the recent British International Motor Show, but we were left hanging. Further adding doubt, these latest spy images recently taken in the American desert suggest development is still going strong, so a debut in Paris this October is most unlikely. Los Angeles perhaps?

Despite initial reports of a beefed up version of the current 420bhp 4.2-liter supercharged V8 found in the SV8 XF, it is widely believed that Land Rover together with Jaguar have been working on a new series of direct injection 5.0-liter V8 engines for future top range models, and it is this engine in supercharged form that will power the XF-R to approximately 500-plus bhp. In order to compete with the German super saloons from Audi, BMW and Mercedes, Jaguar will need at least this much power.

With the 5.0L, this thing should be a hoot!

Wouldn't you rather get the BMW M5? The front facia looks a tad bit feminine. The back looks cool.

M5 is ugly. I'll tkae Jag anytime over BMW ;)

totally wrong...I prefer the BMW 1 Series over a Jag!

This car is sweet in metal. Visually, it blows the rivals to bits and pieces.

I like the car but i agree with autoque a bit, the front looks a bit weak. Maybe if they drop the rest of the Camo it'll look better but i'll have to see.

as 122 said....you need to see this car in person... It certainly carries forward Jaguar's tradition of beautiful cars...

Looks like a Yugo and Russian Lada mixed...

Jesting! Definitely yet another beautiful car by the Brits! I wish they'd bring the TVR here as well. But at least we have Jaguar (Shaguar).

Cheers!

Don't get me wrong Benzian, i do like it. You're probably right about seeing it in person...I do appreciate that they did their own thing. It doesn't really like too much like any of its competition.

i just saw one of these today (the normal XF), in beige i think. Looked BEAUTIFUL!... it stands out so well in person... not the most aggressive car from the front, but damn is it ever beautiful lol. Smooth, very curvy, and the rear is even better. I really changed my mind about this car when i saw it in person lol. I REALLY think this will save jaguar. Hopefully :D:D

question...

how many of u have seen and XF, for real? (this question is mostly for the "extremly manly" MEN on this site == xanavi and autoque). listen, boys.. i've seen and touched this cat, and it looks and feels beautiful. a guy has one that lives like 15 min away from me..and it is white. i didn't believed it either when i saw it but it looks great even in wihte. being a gents car, obviously this would look much better in a sober colour; like a black or dark blue..etc. so, xanavi and autoque, don't worry; it smokes the M5, smokes the E-Class..the only thing i would have over the XF RIGHT NOW, would be the RS6..which also smokes the M5 and the E-Class.

yeahh i have seen it in real life, in black and it looks aboslutly amazing!

Ive changed my tune my man, im pretty sure this car looks VERY nice in real life. Even in pictures its growing on me. You're right the XF-R will deal handily with current E AMGs and the M5...the performance of this car was never a question in my head. Its a highly capable car and for the record i've always liked Jaguars, especially the XK and XJR of yesterday ;)

The M5 put this away! IMO

Can't wait for the new 5-liter V8 it's about time Jag's top end models had some more power!

Looks like a Ford Mondeo that's got harder, better, faster and stronger... not sure about 'stronger' though.

by Tuner_Mad | August 11, 2008 2:43 AM
Ever hear of a Mondeo with a 500hp Supercharged V8 ;) lol...but seriously the regular one should have a healthy 300hp at least which is good considering it will under weigh its competitors by at least 200lbs, i think anyway.
