VW Releases New Golf VI Initial Details
Following yesterday's leak, VW has gone ahead and released initial details of the all new sixth generation Golf model plus hi-res images, although the same ones as before. VW states first sales will begin in Europe this October with Africa, Asia, Australia and North America following in succession. The entry price for the German market is around 16,500 Euros, approximately 200 Euros more than the current Golf V.
The new Golf is described as sportier and more distinctive in appearance than any previous generations. VW Design Chief, Walter de Silva, describes, "It is more accentuated, more three-dimensional than its predecessor; with precisely defined lines and edges, and with finely proportioned flared surfaces and recesses." It is also admitted that the new Golf shares design characteristics with the new Scirocco sports hatch, particularly in “the roof section that now rests on a dominant filled out shoulder section.”
New driver's assistance features include "automatic distance control" (ACC), "adaptive chassis control" (DCC) and the "park steering assistant" bring additional top technologies on board the Golf. For safety, new standard features include a new ESP system with finer response over its control range, further optimized crash properties, seven airbags including knee airbag, the special head restraints (WOKS) that counteract whiplash trauma, a "seatbelt detection" feature debuting in the rear seating area of the Golf and daytime running lights.
Right at the market launch, the Golf will be offered with two 2.0 liter TDI engines making 81 kW / 110 PS and 103 kW / 140 PS. For the first time in the Golf, common rail injection instead of the old pumpe düse injection will be used. Four gasoline engines will be available from launch starting with two normally aspirated engines making 59 kW / 80 PS, 75 kW / 102 PS. Then TSI in either supercharged and/or turbocharged form making 90 kW / 122 PS and 118 kW / 160 PS. Overall, new engine and transmission technologies lower fuel consumption by up to 28 percent and all engines satisfy future EU-5 limits.
With the exception of the entry-level engines, VW's dual clutch transmission (DSG) in either 6 or 7-speed form replaces the automatic transmission.
Here here!
I am more concerned with the performance as well. The rear lights can look as old and ugly as they want. But if that vehicle performs, I will overlook the small details.
Cheers!
Oh no... These noisy stinky 'tak-tak-tak-tak' diesels again?? Give us some proper modern engines and not these prehistorical units!
VW has already fitted the 2.0 TDI with CR which makes it clenaer an less noisier than with the old PD.
whatever they fit to its TDI it still going to sake, deafened, and bore u...
Looks good. Hopefully they will bring it to the USA fairly quickly not wait 2 or more years like V. No wonder they lost market share here. I like the interior looks very well put together.
OUCH! looks like VW made a BIG mistake, this car looks much too much like the sirocco. Engines will be the same only difference will be the bumper and small changes to the int.
they make these mistakes on a regular baises...(veiron costs 5 milion £ to make,is being sold it for 1!)
Die Kiste ist einfach nur "scheisse-hässlich"...
you can see that main picture the car and the random women are photoshopped in!
:( they kept the design... they could of done soo much and they gave us this, an enlarged scirocco... it will probably still sell really well becuse it is a golf though...
I wish they'd bring the Scirocco into the States. That car is ruthlessly wonderful of VW to make!
Now, let's see what VW has in the works for the Jetta revision.
Cheers!
I think that they dont have a designer; The only thing different between this car and the previous is the time it takes to build it! The true golf was the mark 2 and 3! this is really a boring car for the main stream slave to the brand driver!
the idea was to simplfy the design as much as possible as the current golf is costing VW too much to manufacture. Hence the new golf is being released 2 years before VW's normal routine of updating models...
VW is a bargain, especially display models you can get really cheap ones, with great economy and good interior for a low price.

good work overall, never change a winning team. the rear lights look pretty much like the touareg ones, but it doesn`t mean they are ugly. the success will continue...

picture of the rear lights, looking good imho http://bilder.autobild.de/ir_img/59198509_2bdaae31eb.jpg
Looks cool... I am looking forward to get the gti version.
I like it but its not really an improvement in terms of style from the current one...I still like the current one very much
not that bad. No revolution or fancy design here, but thats not a bad way to make a good car. People still like it and will buy it. Good reliability, decent quality and classic, but modern looking car. I like it.
I agree kimbo ... a very good evolution on the V ... why would they make a radical change to one of the motoring world's biggest success stories? ... the Sirocco was obviously the first model to wear the next generation face of VW and IMHO it's a well balances stylish look ... can't wait to see it appear right across the range
... well balanced** ... grrrr don't you hate it when you miss a typo ... lol
Is the American market the only market where the Jetta is not seen as an extended Golf?
MKV frame scirocco front touareg headlights Passat CC doorhandles and mirrors PAssat CC/EOS dashboard brand new wheels (!!!)
= a good mix ! but too classic.... GTI version can be great ;)
"sportier and more distinctive in appearance than any previous generations"
Haha... Earth to Walter Da Silva? Hello? It is neither sporty nor distinctive. You've been staring at your creation for so long, you've started hallucinating. It's a lame, ordinary hatchback that stands out less from the crowd than the Mark V, which was unremarkable to begin with.
"precisely defined lines and edges, and with finely proportioned flared surfaces and recesses"
Get off the crackpipe, man! This isn't some Ferrari or Jaguar you've created. It's a 6 year old mass produced tuna can that's had a very minor facelift. It looks dated already and it's not even out yet. The Mark V looked fresh for at least a couple of years and didn't get old until 2005.
Oh, and another thing... will everyone get the sharkfin antenna now like on other brands (Saab, Volvo, Audi etc), or will those who don't buy the ludicrously overpriced satnav still get the ridiculous fishing rod antenna like on previous generations? And what about the Xenons, will they still remain the most expensive Xenon option in the industry though they don't even swivel?
The more I see it, the more I like it... you can visit www.autobild.de... the excelense is in the details... too many parts from other models, but the quality increases vs the previous model... looks in photos better than the current model, can´t wait to see it in person, obviously the GTi version too!
new golf looks like scirocco in front, tourage in back. looks better though
The more I read about and see of the new Golf, the more I get used to and comfortable with it. The new design isn't really exciting and some may call it a step back. But as far as I'm concerned it's classic and timeless, something that will appeal to many people. Looking forward to October...
This is a great looking car!!!! I love it!!! Looking forward to testdrive it with the nicest drict injection tsi ever an the 7-speed dual-clutch-transmission @ 160bhp. This is definetly the best car you can afford and enjoy in everyday life...bravissimo VW!!!!
i wish they wouldn't have made the bootlid handle like that. my golf has the turning vw logo as handle and it's terrible to open because it gets dirty all the time and then the dirt sticks to your hand. and i wish there will be a more "hardcore" high-powered 4motion version than the current r32 without compromising the "gt" ability. sounds hard.

Hmm, if the standard version is looking this sporty already, the GTI should be worth a look!
I really like the look of this car... apart from those tailights that already look old.
