Hyundai America wants to establish street cred for its new Genesis Coupe before it hits dealers in the spring of 2009, and what better way to prove it than to team up with some of the best tuner shops in the world. As a result, Hyundai has announced today that it has teamed up with Rhys Millen Racing (RMR) to create the "Art of Speed" Genesis Coupe show car which will be on display at the Hyundai booth at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in the Las Vegas Convention Center in early November.

"The unique part of this project is that it will be moving art, which is why we named it the 'Art of Speed,'" says Rhys Millen, professional race driver, founder of RMR and son of famed rally and off-road racer Rod Millen. "The focus will be on the engine and a radical body design to complement the factory body lines. We are going to transform the Genesis Coupe into an apex-carving machine with jaw-dropping looks. We think it has the possibility of being one of the coolest cars at the show."

As the first of several tuning firms to apply their trade, the RMR developed Genesis Coupe will be outfitted in a silver and black paint scheme and dominated by a RMR wide body kit, functional hood scoop and a carbon fiber wing. Enkei racing wheels and Bridgestone Protenza RE-01 tires surrounding Brembo brake calipers complete the package. Inside will be a racing cockpit with Sparco steering wheel and seats, eight-point roll cage and a RMR carbon fiber dash.

The RMR Genesis Coupe will be powered by a 2.0-liter DOHC inline four- cylinder engine with RMR turbo kit for maximum horsepower and torque. It will be equipped with a heavy-duty HKS sequential transmission and a K&W coil over suspension to put that additional power to the ground.

"We've been excited about working with Rhys Millen since the minute he walked through our doors at Hyundai Motor America," says John Krafcik, vice president, product development and strategic planning, Hyundai Motor America. "Genesis Coupe is a rear-wheel drive performance machine we designed to capture the hearts of hardcore automotive enthusiasts, so we can't wait to see Rhys' RMR Genesis Coupe on the race track."

AH HAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! What a piece of s**t! Good job Hyundai, way to encourage more juvenile hood rats to tune their junk to cause more havoc in the public roads.

i like it =]. it has presence, and looks like something that should be on a track more than the roads.

no chance it will compete with the evo and 350z just a cheap poser!!!

Hyundai is a very good company. They clearly deserve to be on top 5 of the world. They are following the same path that Toyota used to become No.1 and they're going just fine! If some of you try to forget their automotive ignorance for a minute, then you may realize for example that the latest Hyundai Sonata is a better choice than Toyota Avensis. Quality is not an issue for Hyundai anymore, it actually isn't since the 80's.

So PLEASE feel free to compare cars without fear or favor.

I don't understand why ppl hate on tuners so bad...they do what they do for a reason...put a stock genesis on the track and it would get eaten alive...cars are tuned to bring out their full peformance ability...aside from that, body kits don't come standard...don't like them...don't buy them, but don't give others a hard time for trying to differentiate

That being said, Hyundai should focus on what it does best - provide cars for people who simply want to get to point A to B on a shoestring.

I respect Hyundai! and like someone said earlier about them following the path of Toyota they are doing the same thing. I don't understand why people think the Genesis can't perform! the high end model has a v6 with 300 horses/the nissan 350z has a v6 with 306 horses the hyundai has slightly larger dimensions but very close and with that alone you CAN'T say it won't perform! someone said they would get eaten alive. Did you do a comparison in MotorTrend magazine that we don't know about please share but if not and you didn't see a video on youtube of this car getting eaten alive by a 350Z don't speak just deal with the facts, if you don't like the car, cool, leave it at that. They are trying to expand their line-up and even if they did make a car to out perform a EVO and Z Noneone would give them any credit. Public perception is a mother! No matter what they do at the end of the day you'll get the comment "but its still a Hyundai"

I drive an '02 Elantra....and you wanna know something ? it'll be a cold day in hell before i'ld ever think of driving its competition, SX2.0, Cobalt, G5...decent cars but Hyundai is better. Watch how big Hyundai is gonna get, just watch. Ohh and the car is nice, however what Rhys Millen did to it is just ugly.

by Xanavi23 | July 31, 2008 4:36 AM
i thought the genesis coupe was gonna get a v8?

by scuderia7 | July 31, 2008 1:49 PM
It's a 350z/TT rival, not a Mustang rival.

I wonder if this will come to the UK. No biggie if it doesn't. I like the standard Coupe's design alot.

by Tuner_Mad | July 31, 2008 6:17 PM
By mustang I mean the V8 GT. standard version, yes.

My oldest american car has over 160,000 miles and still looks like new and runs almost as well as it did when it was new.

by gazer23 | August 1, 2008 4:35 AM
This car is so low and cheaply make that it wont last that long and if it does it will look like a wreck before it reaches the 100'000 mile mark.

by gazer23 | August 1, 2008 4:37 AM
Oh...I don't know about that comment...have you driven or even been inside one yet?

I do alot of business travelling around the world and I've rented a lot of cars in Europe and in the States. It's one of the pleasures of going on business trips...getting to actually drive cars from different markets and different makes.

I never would've dreamed of liking a Hyundai but I've been impressed with the newer cars from them.

I actually liked the Sonata more than the Camry. (Both were new cars from Hertz) I almost flipped the Camry turning like I usually turn in my Merc (which is not the best handling car I've owned either.)

I hope Hyundai keeps it going and establish themselves with more exciting products before the Chinese enter the world car market in force...which they inevitably will do sometime in the future.
