Schumacher Wrecks Ferrari F430 Prototype on the Ring

We recently reported that seven time Formula One World Champion, Michael “Schumey” Schumacher helped complete final test stages of the new Ferrari California. With past development involvement with other notable Ferrari cars such as the Enzo and 599 GTB, Schumacher has become a permanent fixture as a Ferrari test driver on and off the track.

Last week Ferrari had exclusively reserved the Nürburgring for testing of a Ferrari 430 Scuderia prototype, and our spy photographer on the scene noticed it was Michael Schumacher driving. Also, as co-driver he had his son, Mick, who seemed to be enjoying some quick laps at the famous Nordschleife.

Our spy photographer states that an hour later the track was closed after an accident was reported by the 430 Scuderia at Schwedenkreutz. Some rumors quickly emerged that its was Michael's son Mick who was driving the vehicle, but this is highly doubtful since Mick is only 9 years old, track conditions were damp, we can clearly see his silhouette in the passenger seat and the F430 Scuderia proto hit the guardrail at 250 km/h (155 mph).

According to Schumacher's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm, "Michael called me and said 'We have crashed the car but are going to continue with another one',"

Like Senna, Mansel and Montoya - Shumie drives on the limit as does Lewis hamilton so what's the big deal. Would you rather Mika Hakkinen who tip toes around the track drive this car...not a chance this guy is the real deal and Ferrari know that just the Shumie name mentioned in the same sentence as Ferrari boosts up their sales. This guy is the best marketing tool Ferrari have ever had besides Enzo.

Looks like Ferrari is in a rush to beat the GTR and ZR1's Nürburgring lap time records...

...sounds a little irresponsible as his 9 year old son was in the car when he hit the wall going 155 mph...

Wisp I agree, he was pushing the car to the limits and these things happen.

IMO, easily one of the greatest drivers to ever grace a track. You can't hate on him, everybody makes mistakes, if they/he didn't they would be God. Although i do like to think of Schumie as "Lord of The Wheel".

okay it wasn´t schumi then, it was some ferrari testdriver who wrecked the car, would have been surprised anyway http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/29/ferrari-schumacher-didnt-crash-the-prototype-scuderia/

by catchmyshadow | July 29, 2008 5:37 PM
Yeah, Ferrari are saying it wasn't Schumi, but another test driver Raffaele de Simone. They were in the car together when it went off.

by Tuner_Mad | July 29, 2008 6:56 PM
WCF is kinda late on news...it wasn't schumi driving! it was actually a veteran test driver from ferrari, although schumi and his son were in the car earlier, it wasn't them that crashed.
