The world's newest hypercar, the Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series, is not only a guaranteed money loser for Mercedes, but a guaranteed success in terms of marketing and branding. From the local pub to the office water cooler, conversations about how great or how terrible it is will perpetuate for many years to come. So, it's just as fitting that Mercedes launch a flashy (no pun intended) microsite in honor of the 661 hp monster. Check it out and enjoy:

^Those conversations are already being had around the water cooler. Personally, I prefer at least a firm handful; nothing too sloppy.

Hmm...Someone please inform me

Seems like the one who wrote the article seems to be dissing this model saying things like its a "money loser?"

How come? Personally I love the car, but is it really just me? Am I missing something? Are the specs pretty weak? Do most think its ugly?

Just curious is all

Your fondness of this car is well placed, don't worry. I have no actual knowledge of the pricing of this vehicle, but it is possible Mercedes may take a loss on each unit, considering the amount of work done; i.e., restructuring the roof and redesigning the interior, as well as any other special modifications made specifically to the Black series SLs.

Thanks for the reply Bremen :) Now I understand what he meant by 'Making a loss on each one', when I read money loser, I thought he meant its worthless/not worth the price, but he actually means a loss to M-B

:) thx

Thanks Bremen, that's exactly what I meant. :D

After checking out the site, this car is a lot better then I thought...although from the pictures, I do have 1 question...

Is it still a convertable?

by MattAAron | July 26, 2008 12:08 AM
Nope, the roof is fixed so it's a "normal" GT Coupe now ;)

Awh :( Sad day! Thats one of the best features I loved about the SL/SLR series is the fact that is a hardtop convertable...

I understand why they gotta make it a coupe, just sad :( not like i was about to go buy one or anything heh

watched the show American Chopper the other day when the AMG reps from germany came over and that episode reminds me of this car...beautiful

Bah, American Chopper. I tire of worthless drivel from that show. Nothing but a bunch of drunken uneducated yanks tooting their limited vocabulary and providing a monkey show. But that is my opinion.

This car is definitely amazing. I may never be able to afford one (unless I sell my retirement stocks), but I can still marvel at its wonderous design. Definitely the engineers were having too much fun on this beast.

Cheers!
