BMW Confirmed as UK's Cleanest Auto Maker
In an independent industry-wide study conducted by www.cleangreencars.co.uk, the BMW model range emerged the cleanest of premium auto makers in the production of CO2 emissions. Additionally, the data showed BMW also had the most improved CO2 emissions average of any premium manufacturer.
Looking into the average emissions of the total model range of each premium auto maker found that from the period January 2008 to June 2008, BMW recorded an average of 161.64g/km. By comparison the model range averages for Audi and Mercedes were 177.36g/km and 192.85g/km respectively. Even Lexus with its hybrid-based model line-up only managed an average of 194.85g/km, while Jaguar topped 200g/km and Porsche recorded the worst average of 275.64g/km.
Additionally, over the same time frame, BMW improved its average emissions by 11.34 per cent compared to Audi by just 5.78 per cent and Mercedes by 4.13 per cent. Lexus and Jaguar only improved by 2.16 per cent and 2.04 per cent respectively, while Porsche actually increased its average model range emissions by 0.63 per cent.
BMW has been touting this achievement for the past few years through its EfficientDynamics programme. In an effort to keep ahead of EU guidelines, BMW future plans include NOx storage capability within a catalytic converter. Engineers are also finalizing drivetrain configurations to meet the likely EU6 legislation due to come into effect in 2014.
i don't care how green they are. their ugliness is doing enough harm to the planet to undo it all
Now let's see how many cars they sell to see who does worse for the environment... I have a hunch Porsche is not the main threat...
"...BMW future plans include NOx storage capability within a catalytic converter" I'm not sure I like this. More to do for each service interval, cleaning the catalytic converter. Really wish they wouldn't go this route.
I bet some people thought the same when the cat was introduced, but it actually required no maintenance. additionally, most cars that have particulate filters have the ease of replacement as a fundamental aspect of their integration. with service packages that cover maintenance and labour, i doubt there will be much incremental cost. it's great that BMW are leading the way, whilst still producing fantastic cars, shame people can't see beyond the cover, stupid people that is.. who are most likely unable to afford a decent car.
hmmm interesting.... well done BMW it is inetresting that BMW are the greenest and not lexus with all their hybrids...
unfortunately, none of hybrid (gasoline) cars can beat diesels when it comes to low fuel consumption.
Well done BMW, for once again raising the industry notch. Hope others will follow shortly. And it's not about the amount of cars sold to the public, it's about the progress and technology that other manufacturers are only bragging about it.... "Vorsprung durch Technik"..yeah right.
oh what a cliche it is to hate bmw styling. sadly, it would seem for all everyone's complaints on how bimmers look they still outsell the rest of the premium market.
oh, and you cant exactly include porsche. correct me if im wrong, but theres not a single diesel or hybrid yet on their range?
i dont think that there is currently a diesel porsche but i think that a diesel cayenne is coming
Lucifa thank you. The best products always generate such high levels of drug enhanced adrenalin such that people pass diffrent statement good and bad. It just goes to show that BMW is certainly doing something very right that the others are not. Good or bad press = Insurmountable exposure of the product. This is smart advertising by BMW - simple but very effective and reflective in their sales figures. Go figure...
Oh yea. Ugly ass sold out 40,000 of X6 In its first year of production http://www.worldcarfans.com/9080509.001/bmw-x6-is-sold-out

well done to bmw. it will generate healthy competition. its competitor merc is no way near.
