It seems AutoExpress.co.uk affiliated blog CarTribe.co.uk has emerged victorious in the quest to leak official press images of the Chevy Camaro production version. According to the Tribe, the Camaro will be available in LS, LT and full-on SS specs. However, the image of the front-end clearly shows an RS badge in the grille. Nonetheless, engines include a 296 hp 3.6-liter V6 and a 416hp 6.2-liter V8 engines with cylinder deactivation for added fuel economy.

Unlike the rest of the new age American muscle cars, the Camaro is expected to handle well, according to CarTribe, as it's equipped with an independent suspension all around and a StabiliTrak stability control. Brembo 4-piston calipers for the SS to slow down the 3,747 lbs. (1,700 kg) porker. Despite the huskiness, weight distribution is an even 52/48 front to rear, while the interior lighting gets the diode treatment.

The 2010 Chevy Camro is expected to arrive in U.S. dealerships in early 2009. The Tribe has spoken!

Well, at least it doesn't get the standard GM radio unit... it's a cool car...

I like the car but the interior needs some work. for example the gauges are too low. should have been more eye level.

Looks like they tried to stay true to the concept even in regards to the interior. The same cannot be said though for lack of inspired interior of the Dodge Challenger.

What about the Challenger? Jay Leno seems to put it on par with benzes.

Yea, Joe, from what ive read by MotorTrend, the Challenger had very good handling. The writer here is straight up wrong.

Well Joe..since the Challenger is on the 300C chassis, which is the the Mercedes W210 chassis, I can see how it is on par with benzes.

Yeah, the interior looks a lot better than on an average american car! I'd like to know how thirsty this thing is ;o

It took Chevy way too long to get this car to the production line. It should've been out years ago. Not to hinder it's appeal to the masses, but they need to do a better job of being competitive. I'm not a particular fan of muscle cars but I do love the 69' Camaro. With that car as the theme for which this car was designed, I gotta tip my hat to Chevy for capturing that essence in the final production version. Now, can it turn?

will this car really make it in '10?? :O

Pretty cool I must say. Better looking than the Challenger too. Nice job Chevy!

Yeah, pretty nice as expected, and the interior, eventhough harboring those obligated cheap hard plastics, looks infinitely better than the Challenger's.

Well, I for one am impressed. And thats not an easy task!

I like it. I think the designers did a great job creating a modern interpretation of the old exterior. I never have been a fan of the interior but that's because I'm not into retro interiors. As long as the quality of the plastics has increased like it has on the other recent GM introductions I'm sure it will look fine in the flesh. Now they need to redesign the Cobalt with some similar styling so they will have a small vehicle people actually want that stacks up with the competition.

Dmanero
July 19, 2008 8:12:29 PM

they won't need to bother changing the cobolt seeing it's going out of production within a year or so and will be replaced with the chase (I think that's how they spell it) which to me is a far better looking car.

The interior is a real let down, looks cheap and nasty and way too retro.

I cant wait to see one on the road.

it looks awesome, i agree better then the challanger. they really stayed true to the concept car. im proud of GM for not scrapping the cool retro interior for their usual bland ones. and im happy to see the didnt short the v6 on power i had read rumors of 270hp. i love it

carcrazy1234
July 19, 2008 6:12:46 AM

i see they haven't changed the rear lights still... **sigh**...please i hope to see one ONLY in my rear view mirror :P!!!.. but i must say everything other than the rear including the interior are very nice. better than the challenger interior for sure.. BUT, i rather have a challenger for the exterior.

I think we should not expect more than this outcome from American makers, though they have deluted the original looks of the CAMARO concept.

daviepops
July 19, 2008 5:28:42 PM

The concept was universally embraced as a modern interpretation of the old much loved beast and now the production version has stayed true to that show car. The reason this one will out handle the other new age American muscle cars is because this one is American in name only ... engineered in Australia to be built in Canada. The BMW style "angel eye" headlights add a nice WOW factor and IMO the tail lights make a nice change from the usual bland single piece multi-lens variety.

Challenger anyone?

Thats what I was thinking

GranTurismo

Just buy a c63!!! It'll rip any american muscle car, and it's comfortable too.

Joe_Limon
July 22, 2008 3:16:50 AM

but then you would have to live the rest of your life knowing you have bought one of the most boring looking cars on the market.

Not Me !!! I change cars every 5 years.

norther
July 19, 2008 11:16:25 PM

holy crap. the engines are more pathetic than i thought. so, first it was 6025 cmc, 425 bhp....and now its 6.2, 416 bhp...crap. i would defenetley choose the 3.6. i think its better powered than the big lump. i dont know how, from another 3 litres, they pumped out only 130 bhp.

thamzn
July 19, 2008 11:47:47 PM

I'm with you there norther. The Germans are getting 345 bhp from 3.6 liter, 420 bhp from 4.0 liter engines and 500 bhp plus from 6 liter. Unless this car weighs the same as a bird's fart, I don't see the point of naming it 'muscle car'.

gmfan09
July 20, 2008 12:03:34 AM

Its a different kind of engine. People who want muscle cars don't want a dinky euro engine they want displacement so they can add a blower and make ridiculous power. I don't get that most people don't understand that the Chevy small block is very upgradeable to huge amounts of HP and torque. Torque is the other big thing the small displacement engines don't make nearly the torque of the small blocks with a big displacement. And all that really matters is the hp that makes it to the wheels so who really cares how many cubic inches it has.

gmfan09
July 20, 2008 12:11:16 AM

And your not gonna get a good muscle car V8 sound from a small 4.0 Liter.

thamzn
July 20, 2008 9:17:33 PM

Why am I spending so much on an incomplete car? If I still need to add stuff on it, what's the point? It's incomplete. I'm down with the cool interior though, but the powertrain's a waste of time and an attraction to enviro-activists...

gmfan09
July 20, 2008 9:39:11 PM

Who needed to added stuff on to it? I said you could if you wanted to. Is 416 HP not enough for you?

AG4
July 21, 2008 1:38:55 PM

The 416hp OHV V8 is a more relaxed lower reving engine that offers more low end torque.

The 296hp 3.6 liter V6 is a higher reving, high output engine.

A high output small displacement DOHC V8 like the one in the new M3 would make the Camaro much more expensive. Fuel Economy will not improve, and the smaller V8 will have much less torque.

thamzn
July 21, 2008 3:48:02 PM

No gmfan09, 416 bhp is NOT enough for me, not from something that would make at least 520 bhp in better hands...

Joe_Limon
July 22, 2008 3:20:10 AM

Find me a 520hp v8 powered car for less then $30000 brand new. *slap upside the head* its a freakin economy car with more then 400hp, its freakin amazing in my books.

thamzn
July 22, 2008 4:02:00 PM

You do get what you pay for Joe-Limon. THAT might amaze you even more.

joe_limon
July 22, 2008 6:32:27 PM

so double the cost of the vehicle for an extra 100hp? nah I think I will stick to aftermarket upgrades.

lose the 4 gauges in the center console....lame!

I saw a challenger SRT-8 on the street friday and it just eats this car and the mustang alive. The camaro and the mustang look like toys beside that bad ass challenger. Hands down out of those 3 the challenger takes the cake. Only advantage the camaro and mustang have is the T-56 manual tranny.

AG4

"I saw a challenger SRT-8 on the street friday and it just eats this car and the mustang alive."

...its hard to compare the an Challenger SRT8 to the sporty V6 (RS) model in the photos. GM did a good job of making a very modern looking car while still retaining the look of the classic 60's Camaro. The new Dodge Challenger on the other hand looks like a Foose modified 70's Cgallenger.

SalimAl-Abri
July 21, 2008 10:05:53 AM

I totally agree with AG4 and I think the Comaro is the better looking while the Chllenger's dashboard is drap and cheap..

xanavi23
July 21, 2008 4:50:18 PM

It looks great all around, GM did a great job. The interior is godly, retro but futuristic, very nice. Personally i still prefer the Challenger, but not because its a "better" car. Ive just always prefered MoPar Muscle, though the Camaro was always a close second.

July 21, 2008 10:47:31 PM

Yawn, Im so tired of this car, there were just so many leaked pictures and what not.

I got bored of this car before it was released, they shouldve released it a long time ago.
