SSC Announces Green Ultimate Aero EV Supercar
Earlier today we reported the newest webisode of Jay Leno's Garage guest starring the SSC Ultimate Aero. It was there that SSC owner, Jerod Shelby (no relation), revealed SSC was planning to diversify the brand with additional models such as a 220 mph luxury sedan and green supercar. Prompting further investigation, we discovered an SSC media report was released two days ago announcing, “the first 100% Green Supercar to achieve speeds never before seen.”
SSC plans to roll out the first Ultimate Aero based prototype, named the Ultimate Aero EV (Electric Vehicle), in February 2009 with deliveries starting towards the end of the year. With the fastest production car world record under their belt, SSC plans to do the same and break the world record for the fastest electric car.
Scoffing at other manufacturers who have jumped on the “green hysteria” bandwagon, SSC states they will “deliver a pollution-free, engineering marvel with an exotic Supercar exterior.” In addition they make an unbelievable claim that the Ultimate Aero EV, “will not require a charge for six years and will power two 500 horsepower electric motors producing 1000 horsepower and provide supercar performance.”
If this proves to be true, SSC “will soon break the engineering challenge of our time.” If not, they risk their reputation and business. Additionally, the world record certificate on the wall will be meaningless.
Press Release (Click to expand)
Shrouded in mystery and secrecy, SSC has announced plans to unveil the next historical milestone – the Ultimate Aero EV (Electric Vehicle), the first 100% Green Supercar to achieve speeds never before seen. Engineering details are yet undisclosed while development continues at an uninterrupted pace. Despite months of speculation, SSC expects to roll out its first prototype in February 2009.
"I think we can do it faster, leaner and cleaner than any other manufacturer" says Jerod Shelby, SSC Founder.
Unlike other manufacturers’ models slated for delivery in the next decade, Shelby’s latest brainchild expects to be delivered as early as fourth quarter 2009. Other automakers have sacrificed aesthetics and performance in exchange for hybrid power plants, but the Ultimate Aero EV will deliver a pollution-free, engineering marvel with an exotic Supercar exterior. The drive train under development will not require a charge for six years and will power two 500 horsepower electric motors producing 1000 horsepower and providing supercar performance.
Having already broken one world record, SSC will soon break the engineering challenge of our time. Says Jay Leno of SSC's first accomplishment, "The coolest thing about this car is they said they were going to do something and then they did it."
While other manufacturers scramble to capture the Green hysteria of late, SSC will leap over the barrier with a fraction of the Big Three's budget.
Consistent with its company philosophy of being the benchmark, SSC plans next to break the record for the fastest electric car in the world.

Is that so? I am incredibly skeptical of this claim and cannot figure out how on earth this could be true. I don't think I'll be looking to buy shares in SSC any time soon but, if they fall short of this astronomical claim, I'll probably be the first in line to short their stock.
The guy made his dream into a reality and I don't begrudge him a bit. I wish him all the success in the world, but I'm just realistic about this car.
If you also watch the video, Jarod Shelby also says the main point of the Ultimate Aero was to put them on the map. They have plans for a green/electric Ultimate Aero as well as a 220mph~ sedan. who knows if it will be that fast but even if only hits 200mph, thats nothing to scoff at.
Last Note, to make sure you know, even the SSCs engine is a 6.3 but its built/cast from the ground up. Unlike others they didnt just grab a Chevy or Ford motor and slap it in. They researched for the best V8, found it, tore it apart and from what they learned, built their own to be better in every way i imagine.
I'm still skepitcal about the claim on batteries and speed, i'd have thought scientists and massive electrical companies would make such a break through and such a revelution would be reported and used elsewhere. They must be able to do it on a technicality with a catch.

Others are free to be impressed all you like. However, if I ever see an American total package that's dynamic and not a derivative design, then I'll get excited.
