Divulges future SSC models

Although admittedly unfamiliar with the world record breaking SSC Ultimate Aero, New Rochelle's very own, Jay Leno, gets to pop a squat in the latest episode of the self titled, Jay Leno's Garage.

The SSC Ultimate Aero is a supercar in the most vulgar sense. With the NASA wind tunnel tested vehicle capable of a theoretical top speed of 273 mph (439 km/h), and its 6.3-liter twin turbo V8 producing 1,183 bhp (882 kW), the Ultimate Aero maintains the title of world's fastest production car at a confirmed 257.15 mph (413.84 km/h). However, the disgusting part is not the $620,000 price tag but rather its full DOT street legal status in the U.S.

SSC's owner Jerod Shelby gives Jay a walk around and divulges development work on a 220 mph 4-door sedan plus a green project which refers to the recently announced Ultimate Aero EV, the first 100% green supercar to break the record for the fastest electric car in the world.

Stay tuned, more info to follow later today.

Well, he's no Jeremy Clarkson, but Leno does a pretty good job of breaking down the Aero, for us. I'm not too sold on the vehicle, myself but that is my preference. It has that old-school American engine philosophy with a 90's supercar body (a la Lamborghini Diablo, Vector Avtech WX3). It still lays down some incredible performance figures, but we'll see how long SSC stays around. Could it be the next boutique supercar manufacturer to joing the likes of Koenigsegg and Pagani, or will it go the way of failed supercar attempts like Vector Aeromotive. I guess we'll all have to wait and see.

i can't believe i'm defending an american car but seriously... i never knew carbon fiber and all the other exotic materials he mentioned are "plastic crap" lol...i agree i would rather have another kind of car, but seriously, they have done a good job, and achieved something that even i would be proud of aka the fastest car in the world. Yes the bugatti is much nicer and what not, but still, you need to give these guys SOME credit :D

did you not watch the interview? The reason why they made it 6'11" wide put massive 335 tires in the back, used a chromemolly frame under entirely carbon fiber panels throughout, is so that it would weigh less then a corvette be more rigid, have a lower cg then a corvette, and all around be able to handle all the power. The veyron however is basically an audi tt + 800hp + an expensive (albeit imo ugly) interior.

I like it. Years of propper planing and research and at the end of it all you'll have an end product that is.... Well, something record braking. And I think that's the way most (if not all) super cars should be built. Congratulations on a job well done guys.
