BMW X1 Spied with the Door Open
After the recent X3 sighting, we now have some fresh photos of the smaller BMW X1 prototype, and this time photographers managed to get some shots of the interior.
Slotting above the MINI Crossman and below the X3, the X1will not be an SUV, but instead more of a crossover with lower ground clearance.
The X1 will serve as a cheaper entry point into the brand as well as a new X model in a new market segment.
Judging by the images, the interior looks cheap and certainly not up to BMW standards, but nevermind the flimsy looking door trim panel, as it's absolutely unfinished for prototype use. Naturally, the X1 will be available with a multitude of options, one being a glass panoramic roof as seen in one of the images.
Well suited to the American market, this particular prototype has an automatic transmission. We can also see the speedometer has larger miles per hour scale then smaller km/h scale on the inside.
We expect to see the X1 debut in Frankfurt 2009 and arriving in showrooms in 2010. To be built in BMWs Leipzig plant in Germany, the X1 is based on the 1 Series E87 platform and is expected to come in at around €32,000 in Germany.
Not everyone can afford 50K for a car , so its good to see another end of the market . Its just a good entry level car.
it's not suv, it's simple 1-series touring. You'll see.
not to bag on u but if it is a simple touring y it is called x1 and not 1 series touring??
actually i agree with morpik haha even though it doesn't say anywhere, if you look at the side view this is simply a touring CAR (don't agree with the 1 series part), and not an X1... it may be named that, but this is simply a bmw car, with added body bits to make it look like an X series bmw lol.. from what i see.
Typical of BMW. Desperate of selling cars, by making almost anything. Does not matter how ugly they look. Create anything and sell, sell and sell. Pathetic BMW.
They need to stop coming up with new ideas with their cars. its not working
Apparently, it is working, otherwise they wouldn't be doing it.
Pretty much anything works in BMW's opinion. Just not for many people.
seems to be more like V1 not X1...but we dont see hardly anything from design but I look forward to every new BMW :)

This is not an SUV. Look at the ground clearance and see how close the doors are to the ground. This one doesn't even have a higher driving position. It's just a hatch-back.
