Audi's answer to the BMW X3 and Mercedes GLK has been pulled out of the hat, the Audi Q5 was first revealed to us back in April before making its world debut at the Beijing Auto Show. Now comes all the knitty gritty details of the SUV in a full press kit along with a newly released video from the studio showing all the fine details.

The Q5 is claimed to be the sportiest SUV in its segment – although BMW are quick to point out that even though it is priced like a premium segment vehicle, doesn't automatically mean it belongs in this segment. The Audi drive select control system and seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission looks to throw out this theory.

In the engine bay, Audi offers a choice of three engines for its launch starting with the new re-engineering 2.0-liter TFSI producing 211hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Diesel options include the 170hp 2.0-liter TDI and the range topping 3.0-liter V6 TDI unit pumping out 240hp. The engine range will no doubt be extended in the coming years.

For full details check out the super long press kit below and the subsequent 10 pages after that. If you're still not happy with that, head over to the Audi Q5 photo album featuring 135 high res images.

"although BMW are quick to point out that even though it is priced like a premium segment vehicle, doesn't automatically mean it belongs in this segment"

The way I read that is BMW's admitting their X3 is priced expensively and they don't think its fair that they are put in the premium segment because there vehicle is built more along the lines of a non-premium segment vehicle.

I agree the audis are truly luxury cars per appointments and total quality of materials used. Yes BMW sells more cars but so does Toyota? Bmw thinks that it can define who is luxury? Yeahh only to the people who like to be told what they like! BMW is not always luxury and not always quality. Audi is a more premium vehicle and better looking ..IMO If ya want a bimmer go buy one but quit pretending your car is the most luxurious because its an illusion. BMW is not the height of luxury and never will be in his world.period

You make a good point metatron ... I have an Audi and a BMW side by side in my garage and they are very very different ... the Audi is above the BMW in overall quality of materials used and feels solid but heavy on the road ... the BMW is easily the leader though as far as being a drivers car, it feels more nimble, corners and stops better, but the interior is a step down in quality feel ... for style the Q5 beats the X3 from every angle and also the GLK which looks like the next evolution on the old model Forester IMO

Agreed! BMW sometimes has disappointing quality. The same old dashboard design for ten years wehich is starting to look outdated now. Some cars are hideos (X3, new 3 Series, new 7 Series). No Audi is doubtful in terms of luxury and good looks, everyone follows on the tradition of quality, design and luxury, and ofcourse never disappointing. No Audi has not been a head turner, sadly BMWs have had not many.

Does anyone out there know if Audi's Q5 had anything in common with VW's Tiguan? Where might I find some good information regarding the commonalities of both vehicles?

The X3 and/ or the GLK has nothing on the Q5. Technology wise it just kills them. The Nav alone with the 40GB drive, the fact that you get not only the AMI, but also a MP3 output AND a SD card reader.. no other manufacturer does that. Side assist, Lane Assist, ACC and the list goes on, but the best part is... NO other one offers... S-Tronic or the Audi Driver select..

Dieseldog, the Q5 and the Tiguan are on different platforms and do not share anything. The Q5 is actually larger than the Tiguan.

Not when it has S line, that chrome grill gives it a much more muscular appearance, but it may look a bit girly in standard form (I haven't seen it in real life though so can't definitively say). The GLK looks kind of girly, ugly girly though and there is no sports pack to beef it up either.
