Fresh from its appearance as the safety car at the Le Mans 24 hours, the Audi R8 will be take on the same role in the DTM race series and the model will make it a double debut with a second R8 serving as a racing taxi as well.

As you would expect from the superb mid-engined sportscar, the required modifications were only minimal. "There were not many modifications required, though, because the R8 possesses the genes of a perfect sports car,” says Werner Frowein, managing director of quattro GmbH.

Both the safety car and racing taxi will be used for the first time at the Norisring Speed Weekend.

I'm waiting for someone to say that it looks like an R8.... since everything these days looks like it copied the R8.

OMG, my car has wheels. It must have copied the R8.

It's a bit pathetic, yes. They should have put the DTM V8 engine in it to make it fit.

What would the other option be?

AMG CLK63? AMG SL63? AMG SL65?

Come on, those are more powerful but don't quite fit the safety car's purpose.
