British Police Stop 130mph race between Bugatti Veyron & Ferrari 599 GTB

Travelling on the motorway (or highway for those across the pond) can be a boring time especially when you don't have something fun to drive. But in the case of a few British drivers in the UK, that certainly wasn't the case as a £875K Bugatti Veyron and £225K Ferrari 599 GTB came flying past in a street race type fashion going a reported 130mph.

Witnesses said the 2 supercars were weaving in and out of the 3 lanes on the M27 in a very irresponsible fashion, but it appears the fun of the Bugatti driver was short lived when further down the road it was caught by the police driving their more modest BMW 5-series. However He should be thanking his lucky stars after he was only clocked doing 97 mph resulting in three penalty points on his licence and a fine of £60, had he been clocked at 130mph, he could well have lost his licence as well as have his Bugatti impounded.

Now leaves the question of how the Ferrari 599 GTB got away, did it beat the 253mph capable Bugatti enabling him to get a clean getaway? It certainly seems so and if you check out the pics you will see the Ferrari is missing its number plate.

correct me if im wrong but isnt it a ferrari 612, looking at the tail lights?

by janobr | June 3, 2008 8:46 PM
no the 612 has 4 , the 599 has only two.

by dmanero | June 3, 2008 8:58 PM
It's a 599; WCF isn't that irresponsible with their journalism. =P

by Bremen_Koenigsegg | June 3, 2008 9:01 PM
lol...Why would they stop ? hell the Veyron for sure can even outrun a police helicopter...but then again...given theres only 20 veyrons in the world lol....it wont be hard for them to track you down.

by xanavi23 | June 3, 2008 8:51 PM
Outrun a helicopter? It might be a Veyron it's still on the motorway, not a clean straight line!

by lelu | June 4, 2008 12:29 AM
And also because Veyrons suck.

PS Yes, I did just say that, do not argue with me if you disagree, because I am one of the 40-50 people in the world who actually know what a waste it is (and also because you can't, seeing as it was STOPPED BY A WAGON!)

by Kaamraan | June 4, 2008 4:54 PM
The Veyron can't go at top speed for more than 15 minutes. By then it'll run out of fuel. Also the tyres would blow up after 20 minutes( at top speed). Finally, a helicopter can reach top speeds of upto 500 km/hr.

"fun, fun, fun...s*it PoLIce!!!!!" that was the onbord voices of the Bugati.

by shaahinMT | June 3, 2008 8:56 PM
yes you are wrong that is 599 for sure. There are four taillights in 612.

by burana800 | June 3, 2008 8:57 PM
janobr, you're wrong ;) that's 599 for sure.

by MrX3m3 | June 3, 2008 8:57 PM
The Veyron looks as if it's a French registered one.

by TheDude | June 3, 2008 9:02 PM
Yep, that is a 599. The M27 is the road to Meridien Ferrari isn't it? Shouldn't take too much to find the car...

by bristol411s3 | June 3, 2008 9:04 PM
lolx!!

by wolff | June 3, 2008 9:08 PM
Get caught in California street racing, and both cars get crushed. You get a big fine. And you lose your license for a good amount of time.

by fshizl | June 3, 2008 9:16 PM
lol know by experience?

by gtrs09 | June 3, 2008 9:34 PM
no... its just a warning sent out by the news and online lol and they aren't kidding. they've already crushed really nice cars already.

by carcrazy1234 | June 4, 2008 1:09 AM
thats stupid- the police should sell the cars and keep the money

by joelynn | June 4, 2008 10:30 PM
And that's supposed to be legal somehow? That state sucks. Clearly.

by ceven | June 5, 2008 10:36 AM
lol!! sure thing if I have a Veyron, I won't stop racing!

by Pentium | June 3, 2008 9:52 PM
The driver of the Veyron is billionaire-heir Austin Ryan Fuentes, and yes the Veyron wasn't from the UK.

by Mavrick | June 3, 2008 10:10 PM
This kind of exotica is so easy to trace, how many 599 in black in England? Or, judging that the Bugatti was french, recently crossed the channel? Oh well if you can afford the car you can afford the fine.

by joelynn | June 3, 2008 10:33 PM
true, but can he afford to lose the Veyron.

by dmanero | June 3, 2008 10:42 PM
my first thought to that was OMG what a waste of a veyron, i'd be devastated of that happened... when then i remembered... if i cash for a veyron... i could probably easily get another XD + buy my way into getting a new license

by Skychao | June 3, 2008 11:02 PM
sorry i was trying to reply to fshizl and something botched up

by Skychao | June 3, 2008 11:03 PM
how on earth did the veyron driver lose? ok, the 599 is really fast and all, but cmon, this is a veyron! and i dont blame the veyron driver for pulling over...the chase would have ended after 12 minutes when all his fuel ran out.

by jai_mav | June 3, 2008 11:20 PM
well i there are many factors, but considering both cars are supercars, yes the veryon is faster but really how much faster than 599? .. the truth is the drivers skill and traffic is what plays an important role. When you weave in and out you have to pick the lanes strategically by planning ahead, its not that easy especially if your doing 100mph. Secondly a few minor facts are the ferrari is slightly shorter length and width wise, soo easier to weave through also... but in a highway with traffic its not all about how fast your car can go .. also depends how fast YOU are willing to go and how dangerous you are willing to drive...

by JTZ | June 4, 2008 12:23 AM
the veyron driver is either the world's crappiest driver or he ran out of fuel

by caraddict | June 4, 2008 1:10 PM
Part of me says "oh hell, go for it and may the force be with you on this one", but the other half says "loosing my Veron is not worth it". What I would like to know, is if they said that they clocked them going at 97mph; Where did they get the 130mph numbers from? Did the police officer gave them a brake?

by tootall | June 4, 2008 6:15 PM
Most of the people who have such cars are crappy drivers with no common sense. If you can affor a veyron then you can afford lessons, and track days with. Take the stupidity off the streets and on a closed track.

by dmitriy | June 4, 2008 8:25 PM
now there's a smart driver, the 599 driver. i bet he wore a mask too :D... or a full protection safety helmet

by norther | June 4, 2008 10:46 PM
130?! thats it?! i can do that in a toyota camry!!!

by Bakrione | June 5, 2008 6:04 AM
I can do that in a Ford Galaxy. :P

by ceven | June 5, 2008 10:37 AM
Straigt line, of course, handling sucked here.

by ceven | June 5, 2008 10:37 AM
the photo you can see of the race has been taken by a high quality camera, hence why the wheels aren't blurry as if they were driving a million miles an hour. not only that, but they're racing in what looks like a 50mph zone of the motorway. being clocked at 97mph there would still result in losing your license. aaand there don't seem to be other cars in the racing shot either. this story doesn't fit. i reckon this was some sort of publicity stunt.

by sub39h | June 5, 2008 12:06 PM
The guy in the ferrari was scared to stop. He might be thinking 'yay, I beat a Bugatti!'
